This news does not surprise us because for a few months the end of shared accounts was already planned, even in other services. Netflix started the year by announcing its new policy that would prohibit account sharing between different users. While it is true that there have been some fluctuations in the service conditions, and for a while it seemed that they were receding, limitation is here to stay.
Actually, Europe is one of the first territories in which the new policy which will strictly prevent sharing our account with family or friends is put into practice. Other countries included are Portugal, New Zealand or Canada. We say goodbye to shared Netflix accounts.
Without further ado, shared accounts are over
From now on, only members belonging to the same household and located by IP will be the only ones who can share an account. From today the best known streaming platform account limit applies. How to do ? Well, they are going to ask us to establish a main location which should be our home.
As we discussed before, the IP address of our house will be the one that defines the main connection, the rest will be external connections not accepted except in one case. This case that circumvents the limitation refers to sporadic use outside the home, for example, when we travel by transport or connect from a public place such as a hotel.
Netflix will decide that we are misusing it and consider it a shared account if you are external connections are common on your account. If this happens, they will contact the owner to confirm permission.
For a time, the terms of service suggested that each device should be registered at least once a month, but there is no longer any trace of it
If you want to continue sharing the Netflix account, you will have to go through the hoop and pay 5.99 dollars per month to open an additional profile. Of course, this modality is only available for standard and premium accounts, the basic and basic plans with ads will not accept the inclusion of new profiles.
It’s sad, but the time has come. At least the platform offers us a solution. also remains to be seen what flexibility will netflix offer to connect from different locations. But what is clear is that it is the end of an era.
