Building SteamWorldis the newest game in the franchise of Lightning development. In this case, the study presents us with a title of construction, management and strategy for a mining town, quite fun and entertaining, all things considered. We tested the demo on PC, which although a little limited, gives us a good idea of what the title has to offer.
The game places us in the distant future, in a land hit by climate change, humans no longer exist and instead robots inhabit the place. These machines, already tired of the situation, seek to escape the planet and start a new life.
SteamWorld Build Game
The gameplay is simple, we build where we have space and connect buildings with paths. The first thing we need is to build houses for our robots. Everyone has their needs, like access to a mechanic and such, which we have to meet by constructing said buildings.
Each service building has a range that has an effect, that is, it only meets the needs of houses that fall within its range, so sometimes, for example, we will have to build 2 mechanics. To say that we can widen this range if we improve the roads. The more needs covered, the more workers we will gain. We can also improve houses to build engineer houses, which will be useful for us to work in the mine and also have other needs.
resource collection
Obviously, we will not be able to develop our city without resources. Although in the demos we were not able to delve much deeper, we were able to manage the following:
- Madeirawhich we will earn by planting and felling trees, which we can then turn into planks.
- Waterdrawn from cactus plantations and, possibly in the final version, from groundwater.
- Arenathat can be taken directly from the surface and then transformed into crystal and given various uses.
- Coal and various metals from the minewhich we use for most of the utensils.
We can also trade through the train, which allows us to buy and sell any resource, as well as buy improvements that we can use on buildings individually. For example, we can acquire an improvement for the cactus farm that increases its productivity, among other things.
SteamWorld Build mine is very Dungeon Keeper
Something very good and interesting in the game is the mine, which from minute 0 it reminds us of the mythical and hilarious Dungeon Keeper, even in the sounds. We can dig blocks to make paths, but be careful because if we go too far we will have to place pillars to avoid landslides.
We can also arrange the land in different rooms, who provide us with one type of specialized person or another. Each type of staff allows us, among other things, to cut a type of material or build harvesting machines and bridges. Also, in the final version, we will have to defend ourselves from underground life through various tools, which we have not been able to test.
As we said, the demo limits the area a bit, both on the surface and on the sheet, we’ll finish the demos by digging up the parts of a rocketwhich we achieve relatively quickly by chopping and advancing a little while digging.
Eventually
Building SteamWorld It’s a very fun game, it eats up hours, you’ll completely lose track of time. It’s fun and enjoyable to see. Also, it technically supports ultra-wide resolutions and the performance is very smooth and stable. On the other hand, at least the demo is in full English.
There is no doubt that this is a game that should not be overlooked, especially if you are a fan of the genre or if you are a direct fan of Dungeon Keeper. Hoping to hear more about the title once it’s released this year, for PC, Xbox Series X | S, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.
