Upon arriving at the Last Temple, you are greeted by Mother and anointed as a member of the Light Brigade. As the sun continues to decline, humanity’s last hope is to free the trapped souls of the dead before it’s too late.
Immersive shooter meets the powerful magic of light
The Light Brigade is set in a historical fantasy world, reflected in World War II-inspired weaponry. From the Gewehr 43 rifle to the SMG M3 and Nambu Type 14, this wide range of weapons is drawn from a historical period. However, the feel of these weapons is even more important than aesthetics.
Designed with realism in mind, the physics-based shooter like aiming, firing and reloading bolt-action rifles, machine guns and pistols is incredibly immersive and tactile. In PS VR2, this creates intense firefights that put you right in the center of the action. To add to these engrossing battles, you also have magic at your fingertips, allowing you to pair gunslinging and spellcasting beautifully. From infusing your rifle’s bullets with light magic to raining down fireballs on enemy hordes, magic spells are the perfect addition to your rifle and combat arsenal.

The many roguelike layers
You start your journey as a lowly recruit and leave with only a standard rifle. But soon after entering the sunken world, you’ll start looting enemies and discovering treasure chests containing various gun modifications.
You can attach magic charms to your rifle and activate them mid-battle to imbue your bullets with light magic, turning them into explosives or armor-piercing shells. Red dot reticles provide better aiming, while poison barrels cause damage over time effects, providing more tactical ways to eliminate enemy groups.
If you are downed by enemy fire during a run, you enter a Weakened Soul state. In this state, you are susceptible and must survive long enough to recover your lost soul. If you die again before reaching your corpse, you suffer permadeath and are sent back to Temple HQ to start a new run.

Allies at temple HQ and worldwide
With the world at stake, you need all the help you can get. The Light Brigade features an asynchronous online feature where you’ll encounter Fallen allies whose souls you can free. Other times, another player will appear as an allied Light Brigade soldier who can trade supplies with you… or they can reincarnate as an enemy soldier who you must defeat. You will know when an NPC is an online player by their username and online status. In addition, you can participate in daily challenges that combine all the progress of online players to achieve success.
Several NPC allies are also trapped in the sunken world and they need your help to escape. Once freed, they will return to the temple, and some may unlock new shops that allow you to spend your well-earned Rank Points to upgrade your weapons, abilities, and more. From the enigmatic Mother to war veteran Samson and cunning Jude, these unique NPCs also have a story and a reason to fight, and as you continue your journey you’ll get to know them better.
Climb the ladder to victory
As a member of the Light Brigade, your duty is to free souls trapped in enemy territory. By purifying these souls, you gain experience which increases your class rank. As you increase your class rank, you gain rank points which you can spend to upgrade your weapon with the blacksmith and improve your current class passive abilities and spells.
As you gain experience in your current class, you can also unlock new classes such as the dual-wielding pistol, rapid-fire assault class, or long-range sniper. These classes allow you to change your playstyle with new weapons and loadouts, providing more variety for your runs.
Procedurally generated battlefields
Changing battlefields, evolving races
The sunken world is pieced together from the old memories of the dead, so things are constantly changing and changing. With each new run, you’ll notice that your surroundings have shifted, forcing you to carefully traverse through new hostile environments. Using WFC (wave function collapse) technology, battlefields are endlessly procedurally generated to keep your races fresh and exciting.
Collect tarot cards, player upgrades and weapon attachments

Along with a host of weapons, charms, and accessories that you loot on your runs, you’ll also collect an array of magical tarot cards, each with unique powers, buffs/debuffs, and passive abilities. When you acquire more powerful versions of these cards, they stack on top of your existing effect, creating devastating combos. Combining all of these looted tools and upgrades with new weapons and playstyles really opens up the game to make every run completely unique.
