Pokemon Crimson and Violet players face a new ordeal; no, it’s not falling off the floor in battle, or the worn out battle stadiums of before, it’s worse than that. First reported by Kotaku, players of the game reported on Reddit that they had accidentally lost save files.
The worst part of all of this, as Kotaku points out, is that there’s no single reason for this save-deletion bug that’s plaguing a handful of players. Some reported it happened after connecting Pokemon Scarlet and Violet to the Pokemon GO app, others said it happened after downloading new DLC, and still others had a completely different experience.
Another player whose save file got corrupted after purchasing the DLC saw them say goodbye to 90 shiny Pokémon, and they weren’t the only ones who lost their hard work. Players who lost their save data after connecting to Pokemon GO were affected either immediately after connecting to the service, or some time after the postcard was sent.
Finally, something is wrong with Pokemon Scarlet and Violet now. Granted, this particular bug only affects a small percentage of players, but if, like them, you’ve made a ton of progress that you don’t want to lose completely, it might be worth revisiting a different Pokemon game for a while.
It’s also worth noting that some players attempted to restore their save backups by holding Up + X + B on the game’s main screen. Alas, this won’t work because once the save data is corrupted, affected people won’t be able to open their games.
As you might expect, many of these players have contacted Nintendo Support about the issue, hoping their save data could be rescued somehow. One player did manage to get in touch with a support agent, who said shortly before closing their ticket that they were looking into the issue.
Another player contacted Nintendo Support to no avail, but did discover the possibility of using Pokemon HOME to save some of their Pokemon when compatibility is coming soon. How often will Pokemon HOME support Pokemon Scarlet and Violet? This has yet to be confirmed.
Let us know if this affects you! Hopefully not everyone’s hard work as Pokémon trainers in Paldea is lost.
