The next console generation around the PS5 is not yet there, which is why you can confidently continue to screw on your current platform. Sony apparently thought so too and is now making a new extension for the DualShock 4 available on the PS4.
The company today announced the so-called back button extension for the DualShock 4. This is an extension that is primarily aimed at competitive users. The attachment offers these additional buttons on the back, which can be programmed and should react sensitively to player input. Sony wants to implement the whole thing without sacrificing feel and comfort.
Officially, the most important features of the new attachment are described as follows:
-
Responsive back keys with a high-resolution OLED screen: The two buttons on the back of the controller can be assigned up to 16 different functions, for example with the actions of the triangle, circle, R1 or R2 button. They react precisely to the finest inputs from the players. In addition, an OLED display is installed on the top, which shows real-time information about the button assignment.
-
High configurability: The two buttons can be re-programmed ad hoc by a separate button, so that players are flexibly armed for any situation. Three occupancy profiles can be saved. The adapter also offers a 3.5 millimeter jack for wired headsets.
-
Developed by PlayStation: The attachment was developed, tested and worked by Sony PlayStation and works with all popular PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR games, always focusing on the ergonomics of the DualShock 4 wireless controller.
The back button extension will be available in Europe from February 14, 2020.
