Weird video game ads aren’t uncommon, but more and more we’re seeing product ads and ads for other items that use video games. But the Rohto eye drops ad in Japan caught people’s attention because the entire ad uses edited footage of Street Fighter II. (Thanks for the tip, GreatSong1!)
Published on Twitter by the company (via EventHubs and Extension of time), the advertisement is equally bizarre and impressive. They show Ryu and Dhalsim near the end of the fight, both struggling to stay on their feet with a shred of health. Next, both characters hold a packet of eye drops and use them to perform an attack — each getting their own very cool intrusion in the process. The commercial ends with both characters getting knocked out at the same time, happy and relieved that their eyes are better.
It’s definitely unique, but by the way Rohto, it’s incredibly well put together. And eagle-eyed Street Fighter fans might just spot the newer character in the background. Luke, who debuted in Street Fighter V: Champion Edition
What a cool little nod to the future of Street Fighter as well as just a fun and well put together commercial.
