As it turns out, Cal Kestis will retain all his strength for the upcoming first game Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
The problem with video game sequels is that you end up with very powerful games and they have to figure out how to weaken the player character so the game doesn’t get too easy. As it turns out, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor doesn’t do that, as Carl will apparently have all of his abilities in the first game. In an interview with GamesRadar, design director Jason de Heras and senior production director Kasumi Shishido explained how they came to this decision, and the challenges of making the right decision.
“We knew we wanted his skills to carry over to Survivor, and that was one of the challenges,” de Geras explained. “We had to make some adjustments to the enemy from the beginning to deal with his new powers. We didn’t want to cancel those moves because they felt good. You couldn’t go backwards and feel like a Padawan. It had to feel like that power level was the same Yes, and you’ve got another level to go.”
It’s a cool move, and a whole new twist on how sequels usually end. For example, we recently saw that in the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Link will have to start from scratch when it comes to his mind and energy, possibly due to his injury, as we have seen in previous as seen in the trailer.
Shishido also noted that “Fallen Order has been five years, and we want players to feel that Cal has been through a lot. He is no longer a Padawan.” The production director noted that Cal is not Yoda, “He hasn’t mastered everything. So he still has a lot Things can be learned.”
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was supposed to hit theaters in March, but was pushed back to April 28, just a few weeks away.
