There are so many surprises in life that one would rather have avoided. This should also apply to the case in question, although it is an unexpected discovery of valuable data.
What exactly happened? A player has entered an unspecified business an external SSD with a size of 1,000 GB, more precisely the model Gigastone P1000. Although it was sold as new, there is around 800 GB of data on it, some of which is worth a lot of money.
Specifically, it’s about music software like Superios Drummer, Contact and EZdrummer, which quickly costs several hundred dollars when buying a new one. However, there are two catches to the matter.
Double annoyance
The most obvious problem the point is that what appears to be a new product turns out to be a used product. Certain cases probably occur much more often than we notice them. Being so clearly confronted with the fact that the new product was already in use should be the exception in the case of data carriers.
In such a case, it is advisable to immediately exchange the goods with the retailer. In principle, however, the functionality of the data carrier does not have to have been significantly negatively affected if it has not been in use for a long time and under heavy load. This can be done with tools like CrystalDiskInfo
The second big catch: If the programs can be started on the new PC without further ado, it is quite conceivable that they are pirated copies. They could also contain viruses or other malware.
It doesn’t really matter anymore that in this case we are dealing with very special software that can only be used meaningfully by a relatively small target group.
After all, the SSD is as large as advertised on the packaging. This case proves that this can sometimes look completely different when buying a new one:
You buy a 2 TB hard drive for 10 dollars – and get a nasty surprise when you open it
Have you ever bought a new hard drive or SSD that still contained data? And how would you generally deal with such a case? Return the SSD to the dealer without further ado? Format it and use it as desired after a function check? Or another approach? Write your experiences and opinions in the comments!
