Sony still draws the ire of gamers. The Japanese publisher has secretly increased the price of its PlayStation games on PC in some countries and the pill is struggling to say goodbye to them.
In view of the current economic situation, many manufacturers are increasing the prices of their games or even their consoles. For example, Sony had increased the price of the PS5 by 50 dollars in France and in many countries. The Japanese publisher is doing it discreetly again, sometimes doubling the price of certain PlayStation games on Steam.
PlayStation game prices are doubling in some countries
It was daring after the disastrous launch of The Last of Us PC and yet… Sony has quietly increased the price of several of its PlayStation games on Steam in certain countries, as several media outlets reported. A price increase affecting titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales, God of War, Returnal, Days Gone, Sackboy A Big Adventure, and a few others. The increase is so large that PlayStation productions have even doubled in price in some of the affected areas. We can assure you straight away that France is not among the seven countries affected, namely Argentina, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Japan and South Korea.
However, the pill has had major problems reaching the affected players. Notably, the award goes to Argentina, where Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered has doubled in price, while Sackboy A Big Adventure and Returnal have increased in price by 67%. For their part, Canadians have to pay up to an additional $10 depending on the PlayStation game, while prices in Japan have increased by 29% and 32.5%.
Raises that don’t happen
The reactions were apparently not long in coming and PC gamers quickly shared their disappointment. ” PlayStation games on PC were already overpriced compared to console versions and we’ve consistently had the worst sales on PS. And now they charge us even more? That’s not serious…
Some affected players recall that living standards in their countries are much lower than ours, making this increase particularly painful. ” I will no longer buy games that are priced in line with my country’s wages. America can buy a new game with just 5 hours of work. I have to work 25 hours to be able to buy the same game, I’m fed up, I’ll keep hacking “Annoys another person. For now, Sony has yet to officially announce these price increases, as it did for the PS5 in August 2022.
