Gaming News Armored Core 6: Elden Ring in the future? Software tells us everything!
As Elden Ring prepares to welcome its 1st DLC, we were able to attend an exclusive presentation of Armored Core VI, a new project by FromSoftware studio. From Gameplay to Multiplayer, Bosses, Customization, Producers | The director tells us everything.
Surprise, the new game from the creators of Elden Ring will not be a new Dark Fantasy Action RPG, but a game of Mechas in the distant future. Yes, as announced at the Game Awards 2023, FromSoftware Armored Core, a house license that hasn’t shown any sign of life in ten years, will be offering a sixth installment. The principle is simple: adjust each rivet of a robot to achieve a whole series of goals. “With Amored Core 6, we’re maintaining this central assembly system,” says Kenneth Chan, executive producer on the project. “But we also bring the game design philosophy from our recent action games like Dark Souls and Elden Ring.”
Armored Core “2.0”
That being said, what does Armored Core 6 look like? Are we talking about an open world à la Elden Ring? Not really. As in the past, the game will be a series of “diverse” missions across multiple maps. “For example, it will be necessary to recover data or destroy a base,” explains the team. “There will not only be fights”. true to himself FromSoftware will provide huge play areas, this time 100% futuristic. “This episode is set on the post-apocalyptic planet Rubicon, decades after a cataclysm (that completely burned down its surface and galaxy, Ed),” explains Chan. A thoroughly gutted mining world that fits the Hard SF genre.

To put words into action, FromSoftware has unveiled a first gameplay trailer, and believe us: Armored Core 6 has some great panoramas in store… An exaggerated size that also applies to bosses that will underline the progression in certain missions! For example, we saw a huge “crown” whose edges are covered with rockets; or even a giant metal worm that has nothing to envy to those of Dune. In short, the team’s ambition seems perfectly adapted to this new framework. As a reminder, the game is planned for PC, PS5, Xbox Series, PS4, One.

Now another important point, the gameplay: “It will be fast, precise, tactical and dynamic”, summarizes the Executive Producer, more than the previous Armored Cores… In particular, there is a new paralysis system causing the enemy or player to stagger after multiple consecutive hits. It will also be possible to quickly switch from melee attacks to long-range attacks via Assault Boost. “Let’s imagine you launch rockets by activating this ability. While the enemy is being stunned by this attack, close the gap with your Pulse Blade and then attack in melee,” Game Director Masaru Yamamura summarizes PlayStation Blog
In Armored Core 6 we focused on melee weapons (…) These include cluster bombs, chainsaws, pulse blades, spears and other unique weapons. Since the main weapons are firearms, melee weapons focus more on the strength of individuality – Game Director Masaru Yamamura via PlayStation Blog
Of course, this wide range will not only serve to look pretty. In the great tradition of FromSoftware, Armored Core 6 will bet on an increased challenge – where choosing a precise assembly can sometimes bring a decisive advantage… On the gameplay images we could see a whole gallery of mechas: monsters with tank wheels, airborne Rockets, melee swords, scanners. Note that the main campaign will be 100% solo and so onIt is not possible to summon other players’ robots in case of failure ! On the other hand, two excellent news: there is a PvP mode (no other information yet) and we have a release date: August 25, 2023.
