While much of CD Projekt RED is busy with the Cyberpunk 2077 DLC, the Polish publisher is pushing ahead with The Witcher 4 development.
The Witcher 3 continues to sell millions of copies. Meanwhile, CD Projekt RED is busy developing a brand new trilogy. It starts with The Witcher 4, known internally under the codename Polaris. Preparations for the next installment are progressing and the Polish publisher is stepping up efforts to speed up production.
A growing workforce for The Witcher 4 Polaris
The Witcher 3 is a smash hit. CD Projekt RED claims to have sold more than 50 million copies for all versions of the third part and more than 75 million games for the franchise as a whole. The license is enjoying happy days after experiencing a second wind and opening up to new audiences thanks to the broadcast of the Netflix series. All the more longingly and impatiently people are waiting for the famous The Witcher 4 Polaris. The next game marks the beginning of a whole new saga, of which we know only a few details for now. However, we do know that he will be signing the studio’s debut on Unreal Engine 5 and that development will take longer than expected. Internally, however, progress is being made and CD Projekt RED Mobile has even more staff to speed up the process.
Eager to be transparent with its investors and players, the Polish publisher stated that by April 30, 2023, Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty had mobilized much of the workforce. The first months of the year are of course dedicated to preparations for the start of the expansion. The second largest team, consisting of 220 developers, is assigned The Witcher 4 Polaris.
Other projects in development
The staff was assigned within a year The Witcher 4 Polaris have doubled. Actual development of the game started in the first quarter of 2022, when pre-production was only in the hands of 100 people. After the release of the Phantom Liberty expansion, part of the staff will continue to be responsible for overseeing the DLC and the other part will be assigned to other projects. It remains to be seen if some developers will join the ranks The witcher 4 or whether pre-production for the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel will begin in earnest.
We remind you that there are other projects under development in the studio. This is the case, for example, with The Witcher Remake, the progress of which is still unclear. The spin-off invented by The Molasse Flood had to accept a reboot because it failed to convince the publisher. The new concept is taking shape and CD Projekt RED would like to settle down on the subject without giving any further details.
