James Gunn is ready to start from scratch with the new DC Extended Universe. With the premiere of The Flashthe study’s timeline has (almost) completely changed so that we can witness Gods and Monsters, the macro-project devised by the American filmmaker who hopes to live up to the franchise.
And it is that James Gunn is a huge fan of comicsso much so that his love for DC caused a historic sidewalk change, going from being part of the elite of Marvel
“The DCU has a bit more fantasy, because there are larger-than-life superheroes. (…) One of the things that I like about DC, that excites me about DC, is that, in a way, it’s another story alternative. It’s Gotham City, Metropolis, Star City, Bludhaven, and all these different places set in another reality, and it makes it a bit like Westeros in a way. I love it in that way. I love that we can create a real world-building at DC. It’s not like, ‘Let’s put some superheroes on Earth.’ I think that’s one of the main differences.”
From the first moment, the American director wanted to make clear the dedication and affection he is putting into this new DCEU. Through series, movies and even videogames, James Gunn wants to create little by little a universe that is something more than a crossover of superheroes.
In 2024 the first two projects of this DC Extended Universe will come to light: Waller and Creature Commandos. Meanwhile, in 2025, specifically on July 11, the first official film of the franchise, Superman: Legacy, will hit theaters.
