For those of us who owned a Wii U at the time, I think that, in general terms, we know that Nintendo’s eighth-generation video game console wasn’t a bad machine. It was undoubtedly a very decent platform that, although it was below in terms of power and graphic quality in relation to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One (something that has been common in the Kyoto company since Wii), it presented an original tablet controller that would sit the foundations of what is today Nintendo’s second best-selling game console and the third in history, which is said soon. Yes, I am indeed talking about Nintendo Switch.
The case is that although it is true that Wii U was greatly misunderstood (always speaking in terms of sales) in a similar way to PlayStation Vita (although Nintendo had more poise when it came to supporting it in the long term despite the fiasco sales, unlike Sony), had great jewels in its catalogue: Bayonetta 2, Super Mario 3D World, Pikmin 3, Mario Kart 8, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, Xenoblade Chronicles X or Splatoon
Without wishing to dilate any further, my intention in this article is to talk to you about Wii U Super Mario games that haven’t been ported to Nintendo Switch yet and that, in many ways and due to the type of game, they would undoubtedly not make much commercial sense to relaunch them… It is somewhat complicated, yes, because Nintendo has done what it had to do with all the worthwhile ones. Having said this and by way of clarification, some of the games may have a Nintendo 3DS version, something that would not invalidate those on the list
Mario Party 10
Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash
Paper Mario: Color Splash
Super Mario Maker
Mario and Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games
Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympics – Sochi 2014
As you have seen, there was not much to “scratch”. In general, almost all the games on this list already have new versions or derivative installments. (Super Mario Maker 2 o Mario and Sonic at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, for example). In general, being temporary games as most of these are, perhaps the only one that could be re-ported in the future would be
Finally, and as a small bonus, I give myself the pleasure of presenting you some more games that, while they are not starring Mario, they are starring some of his fellow born from his universe and therefore make some sense on this list.. You can always take it as a little extra, a final firecracker. They are the following:
Game & Wario
Yoshi’s Woolly World
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
And here is the list! I left out some games that could have been added like Mario vs Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars or Dr. LuigiSince they are only available in digital format and Nintendo has closed the Wii U eShop, there is no longer a human way to get them, on the contrary, with greater or lesser ease, they can always be obtained in physical format, even if it depends on the second hand. And you, what games of those present do you miss?
