The Frox is a new monster making its debut in the Legend of Zelda series The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the KingdomThe gloomy underground. In the truest sense of the word, the place is shrouded in darkness. Though intimidating at first glance, these gigantic, tusked, frog-like monsters can be taken down surprisingly quickly if you know what you’re doing and are prepared.
Luckily, in terms of strategies, the Frox shares similarities with the enemies Battle Talus and Stone Talus. So if you’re already familiar with the big blanks, you’re already on the safe side. It’s also less healthy, which is always good to know.
The biggest problem is of course the location – because to quote Jamiroquai: we go deeper underground (than you would for the Talus enemies).
Where to find Frox in Tears of the Kingdom
There are altogether 39 frogs in the deep. Frogs live only in the depths below Hyrule. So if you’re looking for those giant frog-like monsters, be sure to dive into a nearby abyss. Check out the depth map below to see all Frox locations.
How to defeat Frox in Tears of the Kingdom
First, make sure you’re prepared. At least you will need it arrows and a hammer. If you want a simple life, bring some with you bomb flowersbut this is not essential.
This really is a two-part boss: stun first, then knock out.
The first and easiest way to stun it is to go on the defensive. Frox has two main attacks: the body slam – which you simply avoid – and what can only be described as “Kirby”.
If you find yourself being sucked into the Frox’s gaping maw, you can do your best to sprint away, but chances are you won’t be able to. Instead, face him and shoot one bomb arrow in his mouth. You will hear a satisfying one gurglingand you can watch and smile as the bomb explodes in the beast’s belly.
The second way to stun it is the same as the Hinox. Follow the golden rule of video games: if you see a big yellow eye, shoot it. This causes the Frox to fall to the ground.
However you decide to stun Frox, the next step is the same. Run up his arm and look for the large black boulders on his back. Remember that hammer we mentioned? It’s time to start mining Zoanite.
Keep hitting the bricks until they break – this is the quickest way to deal massive damage. You have time to take out maybe two chunks with a decent hammer (we used the Stone Talus Hammer) before Frox throws you off and you have to stun him again.
Strictly speaking, you don’t need to smash all of the rocks if you get him in the eye often enough, but you should be able to smash them all after just two stuns.
What do you do with Frox Fang?
Unlike the Flux Construct or the Stone Talus, the Frox doesn’t drop anything that can only be fused with a weapon – anything it drops can be picked up. However, due to the nature of the combat, you’ll likely find that the items dropped are a little more widespread than usual.
The main article drop here is zoanitethe vital component that you must refine into crystallized charges, which you in turn trade for an extra power cell to power your Zonai devices.
But that’s not all, folks. If you’re lucky you might snag a piece of it large zoaniteor if yes very Luckily the Frox can drop one large crystallized charge.
Finally we have the body parts: Frox Fang, Frox fingernailAnd Frox courage. The fingernail increases Fuse’s attack power by +10, while the fang adds a whopping +14. Both can be cooked into an elixir, as can the guts, which only add +1 power.
