Samsung’s The Frame is both a smart TV and a painting. For Amazon Prime Day you can get the manufacturer’s design television cheaper.
With “The Frame” Samsung has an unusual television on offer. If you’re not watching TV, it turns into a painting. There are special frames and stands for this, so it cannot be recognized as a television.
Of course, the unusual concept has its price. Depending on the size, a “The Frame” usually costs between 500 and 3,390 dollars, and Samsung’s design televisions are significantly cheaper on Amazon Prime Day.
The Best Total Package with Delivery: Prime Day Deal for Samsung The Frame
The 55-inch model is already available in advance for Prime Day 2023. It is true that cheaper offers also appear in the price comparisons. But don’t be fooled, there are usually hefty delivery fees. Including shipping, Amazon’s offer is the best for the 2022 model with a size of 55 inches.
Whether it’s Media Markt, Saturn, eBay or Otto, whether in a brochure or online: we’ll show you the best deals in our buying guides. You can find offers similar to this one here, for example, on the following pages:
For classification: Compared to Black Friday 2022, this is a bit more expensive. At that time, the same TV set was available for 869 dollars. It is quite possible that new low prices will be marked here for this year’s Black Friday. Especially since there is already a successor on the shelves with the 2023 model.
Samsung The Frame is available in these sizes
Samsung’s artistic TV is available in numerous sizes. You have the choice between “The Frame” in 32, 43, 50, 55, 65, 75 and 85 inches. You should not make the selected size dependent on the free space on your wall, but on the distance from your seat to the device.
You can find out how to calculate the right size for your television using the distance between the seats in the linked article.
Incidentally, the TV can either be mounted on the wall or placed on a stand. In addition to stands, Samsung also offers an easel as an option. “Stand” is what Samsung calls it. Alternatives to this are available from various manufacturers. But do yourself a favor here and go for the higher-quality models, the cheap ones can sometimes be so poorly made that you certainly don’t want to attach your expensive TV to them.
Speaking of attachment. Of course, The Frame can also be mounted on other wall brackets. The VESA mount on the back is available for this. But be sure to pay attention to the hole spacing (the large The Frames come with 400x300mm!) and the weight.
This is how the model generations differ
Samsung’s The Frame was first released in 2017. Since then, the South Korean manufacturer has given the TV an annual update – most recently in July 2022. While the original model is no longer available in stores, you may find older The Frame versions there. Models from 2021, 2020 and even 2019 and even 2018.
These are often significantly cheaper than the current The Frame generation from 2022. But is it still worth buying an older The Frame model or are you saving in the wrong place? The following table gives you an overview of the main innovations of the individual generations:
The Frame Generation | innovations |
---|---|
2017 | – |
2018 | 4 instead of 3 sizes; improved cable management |
2019 | QLED-Panel statt LED-Panel |
2020 | 6 instead of 4 size; new AI processor; Dual LED backlight |
2021 | thinner frame, more variety in decors |
2022 | matte screen, fewer reflections in painting mode |
2023 | Even more matt screen for even fewer reflections |
The Frame: model generations and their innovations
As you can see, the innovations in the generations are often not that big, but are in the details. For example, work has been done on reducing reflections in the more recent models. The biggest technical leap took place in 2019 with the switch from an LED to a QLED panel. We explain the difference to you in the linked article.
The jump to the 2022 models is also worth mentioning. Samsung has made significant improvements here and has given The Frame a matte surface. This has the ingenious advantage that the TV really looks great in art mode. However, the viewing angle suffers as a result. You should make sure that you don’t look at the TV too diagonally in TV mode.
How do you recognize the generations in retail?
How can the The Frame generations be identified? Dealers often list the device with a year in brackets. This indicates the model generation. Apart from that, the model number also gives you an indication of the generation. Since 2019, this begins with “GQ” instead of “UE”. Of course, the “GQ” stands for QLED.
In addition, the bold letter in the model number indicates the year of development: GQ75LS03AAUXZG. “A” stands for 2021, “B” for 2022, “R” for 2019 and “T” for 2020. Previously, Samsung used a different coding.
Frame for The Frame
The frames of all models can be exchanged at will. You can choose between black, white, wood-colored or various other frame colors. However, not all frames fit all models. Double check that you really have the right frame in your shopping cart. Little tip because it’s a bit confusing: The frames of the 2022 models fit the 2023 models.
Cost of Art Mode
When purchasing, note that there may still be costs for using The Frame after purchase. From the factory, The Frame comes with a choice of 20 different works by world-renowned artists to view when the TV is not on.
You can also upload your own artwork for free. You have to purchase additional images in the Samsung shop for a fee. Alternatively, you can also take out a subscription for 5 dollars that gives you access to the artworks of major galleries.
