To the saga Mario Bros It has some of the most endearing and recognized characters by the community of players around the world. However, there are certain situations where some of these characters have had, at least, compromised translations, like the one we are discussing today.
The character named in English, Petey Piranha, continues to generate a beastly controversy today regarding its name in Latin America. Fans have once again shown their frustration at Nintendo’s decision to translate it as Pepito Piranhainstead of what should be his real name, Pedro Piranha o Peter Piranha. In Europe it was translated as piranha flower.
Social networks are still maintained with numerous surveys and numerous complaints about this decision. We leave you with some of the tweets most relevant below:
Let’s see… I have a very silly existential question
The name of this character in English is Petey Piranha
Pete in English is the equivalent of Pedro in Spanish.
Petey is like Pedro?Shouldn’t it be PEDRITO PIRANHA?!
How did they get Pepito?! pic.twitter.com/NuXZ1GsA3G— Pato González 🦆 (@patog7) July 13, 2023
I did not understand the decision to name him Pepito Piraña in LATAM. It is assumed that in English petey piranha, comes from peter, that is, pedro in Spanish. His name must have been Pedro Piranha. No pepe that comes from the name José.
In the end I still prefer the name of Europe, Floro piranha. Looks better pic.twitter.com/Xssy19elQ9
