Already at the beginning of the month, the first information made the rounds, which suggest the sheer size of the new role-playing epic Baldur’s Gate III. This is now backed up by further information, because the title is said to have an incredibly large number of different endings to offer.
Developer Larian Studios will obviously really make the hearts of role-playing fans beat faster, because in Baldur’s Gate III they will be able to delve into an epic and insane way. A few weeks ago, the first details about the scope were made public, including the fact that the game will offer a whopping 174 hours of cutscenes. The background should also be that there will be far more than just a few different endings.
One of the game’s writers recently commented on the subject at Fextralife, answering the question of how many different endings there will be in Baldur’s Gate III, at around 17,000! These will certainly not differ too much from time to time, but far away from the main storyline, pretty much every decision you make should be taken into account at the end of the game.
Larian Studios themselves estimate that it will take up to 18 playthroughs of Baldur’s Gate III if you really want to experience everything the game has to offer for a single character. If you have such high demands on yourself, you should bring plenty of time with you to throw yourself at Baldur’s Gate III.
Incidentally, the said writer alone spent around six months working to write primarily at the end of the game. The result is the 17,000 variations that are influenced over the entire course of the game. The fact that there are actually so many was confirmed indirectly by Larian’s Director of Publishing, who only tweeted “Oh no, you’ve found the 17,000 number”.
Apart from the smaller variations in the endings, the writer couldn’t say how many very different game endings there actually are. A specific statement, such as regarding the six ends of Elden Ring or the five different degrees of Cyberpunk 2077, is not possible in this respect.
Baldur’s Gate III will be available on August 3, 2023 for PC and September 6 for PlayStation 5; A version for Xbox Series X/S is also in the works, but has no specific date yet.
