Even if call recording is legal in your country and you meet the requirements to do so, neither Android nor iOS makes it easy for you, so call recording app developers had to use all their ingenuity to deliver the feature using all sorts of tricks. And the cheats used on Android are different from those on iOS.
In Android for many years it was possible to record calls without problems, but then Google began to interfere with them until they were almost driven to extinction. Today they mostly survive thanks to accessibility service and root, but in iOS what is transported are the three-way calling services to record calls. Because?
Three-way calls not made on Android
In the past, registered apps could register directly from the system, but not in an official way, but using unofficial APIs that Google blocked in Android Pie. Since then, these types of apps have used accessibility services, but Google doesn’t want them used for that either, at least if the app is going to be released in its app store.
So today Android call recording apps are at a crossroads: Either they remain on Google Play and risk being banned for breaking the rules, or they are distributed outside of Google Play and/or they are exclusive to root users.
Meanwhile, call recording evolved differently on the iPhone: there are no unofficial APIs to take advantage of or accessibility services to abuse for the matter, so apps to record had to invent a way of doing it that isn’t usual in Android: by calling three.
The concept is as follows: in a conversation add a number to the call, which is the one responsible for making the recording and then allowing you to download the recording by any method, either with a website or with an application. The iPhone therefore makes no recording: technically, it only adds a third person to the conversation, which is in fact the number of a recording service. This is the method that has, for example, TrueCaller in iOS.
Android also supports three-way calling, so if your carrier supports it, Why are these types of apps not popular on Android? Instead, applications to record calls on Android are usually based on traditional methods of recording audio on the mobile itself, with lower or higher quality.
Although there are some such applications, such as TapeACall, the answer to the question may be simple: the price. This method usually goes hand in hand with pay a monthly or annual subscription to record calls, something that goes back a long way when, at least until recently, we could do the same for free and without limitations, with apps like ACR Recorder.
Not only is it more expensive, but more complicated
Eventually you get used to it, but it’s still a boring method with too many moving parts. On the contrary, in countries where Google Phone or similar is active, recording is integrated directly into the phone application.
With this scenario, it is not uncommon for call recording apps on Android to have evolved differently than those on iOS, as there were other ways to do the same thing which, moreover, did not imply paying a monthly subscription or pressing many buttons each time you want to record something.
Now now that Google keeps putting obstacles in the way of apps to record callsthis method of three-way conferencing is also becoming increasingly attractive on Android.
