The classic Fallout 4 is known to be receiving a next-gen update for the current platforms, but this is still a long time coming.
Bethesda had already announced in 2022 that the post-apocalyptic classic Fallout 4 would receive a next-gen update. Thanks to this, the title is significantly expanded and optimized specifically for the newer, more powerful consoles such as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. This update was supposed to be released in 2023, but now it’s clear: Unfortunately, nothing will come of it!
Previously, Bethesda had always emphasized that it wanted to release the update in question during 2023, without being more specific about a release date. Now there is finally fresh information, but it is not what the fans were hoping for: The release of the next-gen version of Fallout 4 has been delayed until the new year 2024.
“We thank you for your patience as we continue to work on the next-gen update for Fallout 4. We know you’re excited, and we are too! But we need a little more time and look forward to an exciting return to the Commonwealth in 2024,” reads the corresponding message on the official X account (formerly Twitter).
Considering there are only 18 days left in 2023, this announcement doesn’t necessarily come as a surprise. At least there is now some clarity. However, Bethesda Softworks still left it open as to when this would happen in the new year of 2024. The wording that we need “a little more time” gives us hope that it won’t be too late in the new year.
Bethesda first announced the next-gen update in October 2022 and promised performance modes with high frame rates as well as other features such as 4K resolution and bug fixes. In addition to the two newer consoles PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, the PC version will also benefit from the improvements.
Bethesda released a similar update for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in 2021. On the new consoles there were improved graphics, faster loading times and further tweaks for fans of the RPG epic of earlier days.
