News culture Bleach is expanding its universe with a new anime leaving Japan for London at the end of 2023
Burn the Witch, Tite Kubo’s one-shot set in the same universe as Bleach, is preparing to return to anime with a new project. Good news: It’s coming out this year.
Burn the Witch is back
Tite Kubo is best known for his masterpiece Bleach, a member of the “Big 3” alongside Naruto and One Piece. But the author also signed a short spin-off of his flagship work a few years ago: Burn the Witch. This time we leave the suburbs of Tokyo and the Soul Society and head to the heart of London with Wing Bind, a magical organization that aims to protect residents from the threat of dragons.
In Burn the Witch we follow the daily lives of two witches – Ninny Spangcole and Noel Niihashi – who are responsible for protecting Baldo Ywain Parks, a young man who seems to have strange connections to dragons.
Originally released as a one-shot in 2018, Burn the Witch was eligible for a first anime adaptation, a film divided into three episodes that aired on Crunchyroll in 2020. Three years later, the manga was about to return to anime.
A prequel is planned for the holidays
The project was announced last October and Crunchyroll has just released a first trailer for Burn the Witch #0.8, a new adaptation of the manga of the same name. This time, fans will be treated to a special episode that will serve as a prequel to the three previously aired episodes. This episode is actually the adaptation of Chapter 0.8, which itself is a prequel to the one-shot. So the events of this chapter take place about a month before those of the main story.
On the production side, we find almost the same team that worked on the film. Studio Colorido is still responsible for the animation, with Tatsuro Kawano directing. Asami Tano, Yuina Yamada and Shinba Tsuchiya will once again take on the roles of Ninny, Noel and Balgo. Finally, we close with excellent news: Burn the Witch #0.8 is scheduled for December 29th on Crunchyroll. Enough to end the year in the best possible way.
