It is an open secret that Sony is working on a more powerful PlayStation 5 Pro. Recently there has been increasing speculation that a presentation could take place as early as January as part of the CES 2024 in Las Vegas, but an insider is crashing the party!
It is generally assumed that Sony could release the more powerful PlayStation 5 Pro variant in 2024, after a slim model of the popular console came onto the market last year – as the rumor mill had previously predicted. There was recently a lot of speculation online that Sony could announce the Pro model at the upcoming CES 2024 in Las Vegas in January. According to a renowned insider, that won’t happen after all!
A few weeks ago, suspected specifications of the PS5 Pro leaked online. Accordingly, the new model should have a similar structure to the previous PS5, but the new edition should support upscaling technology similar to NVIDIA’s DLSS and have significantly more powerful chips. These supposed specifications also ultimately led to the rumors of an imminent presentation at the CES in January; The technology trade fair in Las Vegas will take place from January 9th to 12th, 2024.
The very renowned and well-informed insider Tom Henderson is now countering these rumors via social media. He would therefore be quite “surprised” if Sony actually presented the PS5 Pro at the January CES event. Accordingly, he does not assume this, at least if Sony’s internal plans for the release of the console had not changed.
It seems like everyone is hyped that the PS5 Pro might be announced at CES. Personally, I’d be surprised if they were to announce a new console 9-10 months from release if that’s the timeline they are still going with. So I’m more inclined to believe a late Q3 announcement.

Henderson had previously reported that Sony was aiming to release the PS5 Pro in the 2024 Christmas season. He therefore has strong doubts that Sony will hinder its own PS5 sales for up to 10 months by announcing the PS5 Pro so early. He therefore continues to assume that it is much more likely that the PS5 Pro will not be presented until “the end of the third quarter”. It will therefore probably take some time before the console revision, which is being developed internally under the code name “Trinity”, is revealed.
Separately, Sony has already confirmed a press conference on the occasion of CES 2024 for January 8, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. PT; However, this should primarily be about creativity based on current technologies. Sony is likely to primarily present new camera models and lenses as well as products from other technology categories at CES.
