Since January 17, the new RTX 4070 SUPER are now available on the market, both in the NVIDIA Founders Edition version and in those that have been customized by different assemblers such as ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte among others. As a rule, assembler versions offer practically the same TDPHowever, this time, that is not the case.
The manufacturer Gigabyte has released 2 versions of the RTX 4070 SUPER but the one that interests us is the model Master AOURUS. After the tests that the guys from TechPowerUp carried out on the Gigabyte RTX 4070 AORUS Master, unlike the TDP of the NVIDIA Founders Edition version, which is 220W, this model has a DTT of 245W, exceeding the maximum allowed which is 240W.
According to this same support, the RTX 4070 SUPER is limited to a maximum power of 255W, however, the AOURUS Master model has a 350W TDP, which is 59% more than the NVIDIA model and which, initially, could be associated with a significant increase in performance. To ensure that the 350W TDP does not pose a problem for graphics integrity, the AOURUS Master includes a 34cm long cooling system that allows it to reduce the temperature up to 15 degrees cooler than the version Founder Edition.
In the tests carried out by this support, the AORUS Master has a consumption of 246W. If we want to take advantage of the maximum limit that this model is capable of offering, we must overclock it but in a professional way, by people who really know what they are doing and who have enough knowledge not to mess up this graph. After subjecting it to various tests, this support reached a maximum power of 290W, which is 60W less than what this modified version of the RTX 4070 SUPER is capable of offering.
The changes made by Gigabyte in the AORUS Master model represent an improvement of performance between 4 and 5% compared to NVIDIA’s Founders Edition version. This is possible thanks to the implementation of 2655 MHz clocks, instead of the 2475 MHz clocks used by the Founders version.
TechPowerUp overclocked this Gigabyte model and, at best, achieved an additional 6% performance over the Founders Edition version, a performance that has nothing to do with the high TDP of this model. If we want to get the most out of this high TDP, it is necessary to perform a much more complex overclock that is not within the reach of any user.
He equipment used to perform the tests It consists of an EVGA Z790 motherboard, an Intel Core i9 14900 processor cooled by the Arctic Liquid Freezer II heat sink and with Arctic MX6 thermal paste, two 16 GB DDR 5 7200 MHz modules from Thermaltake, a Seasonic Vertex GX 850W power supply and Windows 11 Pro. with the latest update currently available. Regarding the price, the Gigabyte RXT 4070 SUPER is half the price between the RTX 4070 SUPER and the RTX 4070 Ti SUPER based on the MSRP which is 669 dollars and 899 respectively.
