There are increasing signs that The Last of Us: Part III could reach us after all. Developer Naughty Dog has now hinted that there could be “another chapter” within the PlayStation success series.
The Last of Us is considered one of the best game series ever. In addition, Naughty Dog’s successful PlayStation series has now also made it onto TVs as a series via HBO – and this was also completely convincing. It was generally assumed that the story with The Last of Us: Part II had unfortunately been told, but that no longer seems to be the case. Rather, there are increasing signs that The Last of Us: Part III could still reach us.
A few months ago, the studio left the continuation of the series open. In the run-up to the release of The Last of Us: Part II Remastered, Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann did not deny a third part; Rather, he said at the time that he could not or did not want to comment on the future at the moment. At the same time, he confirmed that Naughty Dog has several new games in the works.
Now, “Grounded 2”, a making-of documentary for The Last of Us: Part II has been released – and in it Neil Druckmann now sounds much clearer. In part of the video he explains that he hasn’t really found a suitable concept for Part III for years. But in the end he constructed one that he was convinced was a worthy sequel to the second game.
The concept for a third The Last of Us game is its own thing, but is in line with the first two games, which focused on things like love and justice. Druckmann initially did not comment further on the potential story of a new game or the topic taken up, but this is in a concept phase.
Whether a possible The Last of Us: Part III brings with it a possible jump in time or introduces completely new, important characters is currently pure speculation. The Last of Us: Part III has not yet been officially announced. But: The chances are probably very good, especially since Druckmann concludes with the words that there is “possibly another chapter in this story.”
Even if Druckmann himself is very satisfied with the end of The Last of Us: Part II, because virtually all of the game series’ themes have been brought to a conclusion, a third game is currently more likely than ever before!
