Although you can already look for legendary creatures in the world of Palworld, there is actually no counterpart to Pokémon’s very first Legendary yet. We actually say that because it turns out that there is a Pal in Palworld that is strikingly reminiscent of the good old Mewtwo – at least in its more developed form.
The creature is a Pal named Dark Mutant – but you can’t currently find said legendary Pal in the game. It was merely unearthed in the game files and, upon discovery, immediately fueled the ongoing controversy surrounding possible copyright infringement.

A shake-up of power – Palworld in the test
What is the Dark Mutant?
Originally, Palworld dataminer Brian Cozzens came across the hidden Pal, which he discovered while actually working on an interactive map for the game. In an interview with Eurogamer Cozzens finally presented his discovery.
This is a Pal that is not yet available in the game and is of the Dark type and, based on the revealed values, is well suited for medicine production, for example. Dark Mutant even has its own entry on the Palworld fandom page, where you can watch it. The leaked Paldex entry says about the Pal that it Tearing holes to dimensions
can.
New allegations of plagiarism
But this surprising discovery and Dark Mutant’s abilities are not the only reason why the Pal is being talked about. The leaked model of Dark Mutant in particular caused frowns among Pokémon fans, who once again saw it as a rather blatant copy of an already existing pocket monster.

As the Pokémon YouTuber Lewtwo points out in a post on and Y received in 2015.
In the tweet above you can see Dark Mutant and Mega Mewtwo in direct comparison. The color is of course different, but the body shape and posture are very similar. It’s not the first time that Palworld has been accused of using Pokémon too freely. The extremely successful game on Steam is already in the sights of some Nintendo lawyers.

Palworld – The Scandal Game That Kicks Pokémon’s Butt
However, so far there has been no legally binding verdict or tangible evidence that the development studio deliberately stole from Pokémon or copied their monsters using AI. However, some angry Pokémon fans see the fact that Dark Mutant only exists in the game files as a sign that the similarities here were too noticeable even for the studio.
Of course, there can be many more reasons for the banishment to the game files and in the case of Dark Mutant it would also be quite strange, as some available Pals such as Lunaris also have extreme similarities to various Pokémon.
