We have been hearing rumors for a couple of years about the supposed PS5 Pro. However, in recent hours more details of the apparent hardware that the next variant of Sony’s console would include have come to light.
Until now, the leaks about the features of the PS5 Pro had focused on the work that Sony would be doing to improve the graphic quality in general. Not only with a ray tracing optimized, but also with a solution that allows games to run at a “locked” rate of 60 frames per second.
However, now Moore’s Law Is Dead has published a series of hardware specifications that would belong to the PS5 Pro. Through a live stream on YouTube, it was revealed that the new model would arrive with a AMD eight-core processor
Although it is not mentioned in the original leak, there is already speculation that this evolution could bring not only performance improvements, but also greater efficiency in energy consumption. For now, it is unknown what the CPU clock frequency would be.
On the GPU side, meanwhile, it would incorporate 60 computing unitsagainst the 36 of the PlayStation 5. However, the leaker indicates that Sony could limit them to 56 computing units in the final version of the PS5 Pro. As for the RAM memorythe 16 GB of the GDDR6 type over a 256-bit memory bus.
The main features of the PS5 Pro
Another piece of information that provides Moore’s Law Is Dead is that Sony would have finished developing the PS5 Pro processor approximately a year ago. However, I would have left it aside to analyze If it would really be worth launching this variant of the console.
Apparently, the Japanese corporation’s concern would be whether what happened with the PS4 Pro could be repeated. This model would not have been the sales success that the manufacturer expected, which has led to several speculations. The most optimistic indicated that 1 in every 6 PS4 on the market was a PS4 Pro, while the most pessimistic placed it at 1 in 10.
Likewise, the leak indicates that it has not been possible to corroborate whether Sony will provide the PS5 Pro with a NPU (neural processing unit). Some time ago, Jeff Grubb said that the device would supposedly use a proprietary, AI-based solution to scale graphics. It would have a similar operation to NVIDIA’s DLSS technology and would require a hardware component dedicated to that task.
Regarding its release date, meanwhile, there are still no details. Moore’s Law Is Dead indicates that AMD expects the PS5 Pro to hit the market just in time for the end of year holidays. Previous reports suggested that his debut could come earlier, around September. The final word will be Sony’s, certainly. We will continue to pay attention to the news.
