How to change your city location in the Weather app

Always have climate and weather information at your fingertips in the native Apple app based on your location or favorite cities.

On the application of Time spent on iOS has taken a huge leap in terms of information display and interface so clean and crisp that it rolls. In iOS 16 and iOS 17, the app was renewed and users considered returning to it if they opted for other options at the time. In my case, I stopped using it years ago due to the little information and design I had and came back to it after renewing the iPhone a few months ago. What if we want to manage our locations? Seeing time different from where we are is possible, We will see how to change the default location, add new locations or change them between the locations we added.

Change the default location on iPhone and iPad for the Weather app

The easiest way is to go through localization, To do this we will have to activate location services so that they automatically indicate the weather of said location. Usually the Cupertino data is displayed at the beginning, because it could not be otherwise. Let’s configure it as follows.

1. Open the Settings app

1. Go to Privacy & Security section, then Location Services
2. Turn on the Location Services switch
3. Scroll down and tap Weather, change the setting to Always (or while in use if you want to avoid excessive GPS use).

This is one of the best methods to always have information about the weather where you are. If you travel to different destinations frequently, you won’t have to worry about searching again and again for the weather of the cities you are visiting.

If you don’t want to enable location services due to battery issue or you’re just not happy with this feature, you can change the weather location manually and have a preferred location by default.

1. Open the Weather app
2. Press the List icon at bottom of iPhone. On iPad, it’s in the sidebar in the upper left corner

1. Find your favorite locationtap the city in the search results
2. If the desired information is correct, press the Add button

1. Tap and hold the location map and drag it up.

In my case, I like to sort two or more cities by clicking the three-dot icon, then Edit List and sort them with the three-line icons. Keep in mind that if location services are enabled, you won’t be able to put any cities above in the Weather app. If you want the latter, you will need to turn off weather tracking in Location Services, following the first steps we saw as a reference. If multiple cities are added, you can switch between locations by swiping from left to right or vice versa while on the main screen.

Along with the use of widgets, it is also common to use the to that of the Weather application, therefore You can also make changes in terms of locations. Let’s see how to do it.

1. Long press the Weather widget

1. Choose Edit the widget, then tap Location

1. Choose from cities added to the list or look for a new one in case you haven’t considered it

Some considerations to keep in mind with Time

It is important that you know that By enabling your location, you will have more precise information about exactly where you are.. For example, in Mexico City, one of the largest cities in the world, it is divided into a large number of zones. As it can rain in the center but it can be sunny in the south, or degree information or weather forecast may change. In my case I added the general climate of the city and on the other hand that of the place, also out of curiosity I like to add that of the other districts of the city as well as neighboring towns.

If you go to another country where the reading changes to Fahrenheityou can change the temperature reading in the Climate app itself. Open the app and tap the List icon in the bottom right corner. Tap the three-dot icon and select Fahrenheit.

If you have notifications enabled you will receive critical alerts for more urgent phenomena like a possible hurricane up to low or medium alert cold front or change from warm to cold weather or vice versa.
