Despite the lack of GDC in March this year, it was a particularly exciting week for Indie Gaming News. The two main factors responsible for the proliferation of this interesting game are Nintendo ’s Direct (Introduction of 2020 Switch games) on Indie World, and Steam ’s second Game Festival, which everyone brought this weekend More than 40 playable demos.
Although we do cover these two aspects separately, we will provide more games with special attention in the weekly independent gem feature. So let's get started.
Popular indie games of the week on March 16
Fight in tight spaces
Even if Mode 7 doesn't create interesting and unique games (such as Frozen, Frozen Synapses), people are always interested in coolness. The studio's latest work is a game about punching in narrow areas.
The "Fights in Tight Spaces" created by RICO developer Ground Shatter are turn-based fighters (just say weird out loud) where you can build a deck of cards representing different actions and confidently deploy them flexibly to turn-based AI in battle.
These actions are well animated and have the weight you would expect in a melee-based game, and at the same time look stylish-to the point where I want a live version, although given the limited circumstances this may soon Into a messy space.
"Fight in a Narrow Space" has more than 150 cards with different actions, some of which involve using the environment and even forcing the enemy to attack each other. It has a bright, clear look similar to Superhot, which only helps to magnify its coolest moments.
Tights in Tight Spaces will appear on PCs and consoles sometime this year, and you can now list it on Steam.
Creatures in the well
Creature in the Well is part of an emerging genre of games that finds interesting ways to hit the pinball into familiar game mechanics. But unlike Yoku's Island Express and similar games, Creature in the Well doesn't just disguise elaborate pinball tables as levels.
Instead, this is a dungeon crawler with a machete and machete method that happens to weave a very satisfactory pinball and breakthrough mechanism into its structure. Other arenas in the game have bumpers, and you can bounce the ball to recharge it. This is how you primarily solve puzzles and navigate different combat challenges.
This is a unique game set in a desolate world of sand and dust. Its dungeon is handmade and not procedural. Creature in the Well was launched on Steam and Switch last year, but finally landed on PS4 on March 31 for only $ 15.
Games to play this weekend
Project Genesis
We like a great space game on VG247, and Genesis is a game that I have been following. Project Genesis is a multiplayer spaceship fighting game. It's interesting: you can actually board an enemy capital ship and take it out from the inside.
The transition between space combat and first-person shooting is seamless, and you will complete it as part of a group of players. The battle part of the ship is inspired by the fearless battle, and the shooting mechanism of CQC is more similar to Halo. Although Genesis is still in the early stages of development, it already has excellent visual effects and a reliable overall display.
The game has been in closed beta for some time, and developer 8 Circuit has been regularly updating other updates it adds to each new release. However, 8 Circuit is almost ready to introduce it to Steam Early Access. The Genesis plan won't get into early access until April 24, but you can actually play the current version this weekend.
Developers will provide this Steam Key for pre-launch testing to anyone who is willing to register on the official website for free. The better news is that this specific test will continue until next month, so be sure to get a key immediately, even if you don't jump the car this weekend. Remember, this is not the key to the entire game.
Over 40 free demos
If we don't dedicate this part of the weekly feature to highlight certain games included in the ongoing Steam Game Festival, we will be removed. If you are unfamiliar, this digital event will bring many game demos that developers have shown at this year's GDC and other events, but it is not possible due to the entire corona virus.
Many developers are involved in events that can permanently change the nature of pre-release demos, and we hope to bring you some great games. Again, these demos are only available on Monday.
Elder Soul
It's been a few weeks since I used the word "soul-like soul" on the site, so I'm posting it to "elder soul" now. "Soul of Eternal Life" is a top-down punitive soul, which is essentially a series of boss battles.
It has a unique speed-sword attack mechanism that enables fast, adventurous battles and sets its rhythm apart from "soul" -like endurance dance. You can further leverage multiple talents to customize your moves and take advantage of the rewards of beating your boss. It looks really desolate. Click on the game's Steam page to download the demo.
Go down
Going Under is a dungeon creeper with a unique premise. Going Under's dungeon does not leave you with the ruins of some ancient civilizations, but the ruins of failed high-tech startups.
This is an action game where you will compete for weapons in the dungeon and enjoy modern satire about the tech boom on the West Coast of the United States. The artistic style of the game also reflects a sense of humor, which helps make it truly stand out as you scroll through the festival pages. Check out Going Under's demo on Steam.
nothingness
Neverinth has actually entered Steam Early Access for almost a year, but this is the first time I've seen it. This is an action game, after Ragnarok, you can play different Valkyrie to meet the battle challenges set by Yggdrasill. I don't need to explain why this is cool for Nordic myth fans.
If you haven't sold it completely and Neverinth's combat power will help you, then you should definitely try this demo. It was rated "very positive" on Steam, and all signs point to a stable action game.
Celestial body
Heavenly Bodies is a physics-based space routine simulator in which you play astronauts from the 1970s who try to perform any common tasks astronauts would perform in those days. You know, repairing satellites and more. Lack of gravity, the astronaut's fluffy body makes you a great combination when wrestling weightless limbs to break speed and try to get work done.
If you've played Heave Ho since last year, or the classic QWOP, you know what will happen. Celestial won't be released until next year, so you'd better try it out when possible.
