Geolocation on mobile phones is one of the best features of these devices, as it allows users in Europe to navigate with map applications and even record our workouts. However, not all applications should access it.
Some, like Google Maps, need it to fulfill their main purpose, and other apps also need it, but for additional options. However, there are other examples in which this permission is not necessary at all, such as calendar or notes apps.
Despite this, There are applications that try to access the geolocation of the mobile, but, fortunately, it is possible to check which applications these are, and even when they managed to know this information. Additionally, you can change the permission status of this app, but if you think it is malware, it is better to uninstall it.
Applications that use location
Android phones and tablets have the ability to manage permissions granted to installed applications. One of them is the location, and thanks to this it is possible to know the geographical position of the device and other data such as your movement speed. In many applications such as Google Maps, it is necessary to know this for normal application development.
In the permissions section in Settings, it is possible to see which apps have access to the user’s location, but you cannot see which ones have recently requested it. This information can be checked from the location section, in settings. There, just below the switch to enable this feature, is a recent activity section in which you can see which apps have recently used the device’s location.
Here there should only be apps that really need localization to fulfill their main task, or at least use it to improve their service. If an app appears that shouldn’t need localization, you can click on it in this same section to manage its location permissions.
This can be granted so that it is accessible at any time, only when app is used or even never allow it. There are cases in which the latter option is the safest, but you must ensure that it will not interfere with its normal operation.
