There is always heated discussion and criticism in gaming circles when single-player titles still require an internet connection. What about Star Wars: Outlaws from Ubisoft in this regard?
Ubisoft is known to be working on the promising Star Wars: Outlaws, which received a big story trailer and a release date yesterday evening. The action game will be available for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S from August 30, 2024 and will offer fans of the sci-fi franchise an action-packed new adventure. But will an internet connection be necessary for this?
While such a permanent internet requirement is generally accepted in multiplayer titles, an internet requirement in single-player games is repeatedly criticized. After all, single players in particular appreciate that they can ideally play their beloved titles offline and without an internet connection. Recently, for example, the heist shooter Payday 3 was heavily criticized after it could no longer be played offline solo. Does this Star Wars: Outlaws avoid this faux pas?
The packaging of the PS5 version published when the release date was announced confirmed that an internet connection will be necessary at least to install the game. But: According to Ubisoft, Star Wars: Outlaws should then be fully playable offline. A company spokesman told English-speaking colleagues IGN confirmed. Beyond installation, an internet connection is only necessary to install and download updates or post-launch content.
In this respect, Ubisoft follows the approach used with Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Again, players had to connect online to install the game and download a day-one patch; this was mandatory. The players then also had the option of playing offline in the future.
Star Wars: Outlaws revolves around the main characters Kay Vess and Nix. The new story trailer provides further insights into the plot, in which you can also see some familiar faces. The game will be released on August 30, 2024 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
