After the botched release of Cities: Skylines 2 in October 2023, the developers are now being criticized again. The reason is the release of the first add-on for the former building hope. This comes too early for many fans and offers them too little content for the price.
As a result, the development studio Colossal Order has now contacted the community and asks for their forgiveness. In order to smooth things over, not only is improvement praised, but gifts are also distributed. You can find all the important information about this in this article.
An admission of guilt and a promise
The developers reported on the official website of the publisher Paradox Interactive with their fans. There they apologized for the rushed release of the controversial Beach Properties add-on and the continued buggy state of Cities: Skylines 2.
In their statement it is clear that they are aware of their previous promises. They announced last year that they wanted to regain the trust of the players and meet the expectations of the fans. The developers vow to improve and reiterate their statements:
When we’ve made statements like this in the past, they included promises to improve the game. However, as we worked on these improvements, they did not come at an acceptable speed or size. It pains us that we have now lost the trust of many of you. We want to do better.
Our editor Maurice Weber is also not happy about the state of Cities: Skylines 2. In this video he tells you how this debacle could have been avoided:
Paid becomes free
To show that the developers and publisher are serious about their apology, Beach Properties will now be converted into a free extension converted. Anyone who has already purchased the add-on separately should receive a full refund.
Problems with the Ultimate Edition: Anyone who received Beach Properties as part of the Ultimate Edition will not receive a refund. Colossal Order justifies this with the different distribution channels.
As a replacement, however, buyers should receive additional content worth almost 40 dollars. Instead of the addon, the Ultimate Edition now includes three additional Creator Packs and three Radio Stations.
This is how it should continue from now on
Before new paid content is released for Cities: Skylines 2, the team’s entire focus should be on optimizing the base game. Therefore, the next Bridges and Ports addon will be postponed to 2025 and the console version will be postponed until at least October 2024.
They also want to listen more to the community during development from now on. That’s why a meeting will be held where representatives from Colossal Order, Paradox Interactive and the player base will come together to discuss the future of the building game.
