In the sixth episode of “Star Trek: Discovery” Season 5, Dr. Kovich (David Cronenberg) Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) a list of the scientists who have hidden clues to the location of the Progenitors’ technology.
One of the scientists who also plays an important role in episode 6 is Denobulan. We already know the species from other “Star Trek” series. One of the most famous Denobulans is Dr. Phlox (John Billingsley) from Star Trek: Enterprise.

Another scientist based on Dr. Kovich’s list is named Marina Derex. She is Betazoid. Another famous (semi-)Betazoid is Deanna Troi from “Star Trek: Picard” and “Star Trek: The Next Generation”. The role is played by Marina Sirtis. It is very unlikely that Marina Derex’s first name was not inspired by the actress of the most famous Betazoid in the “Star Trek” universe.
The Prime Directive
In Episode 6, the bridge crew of the USS Discovery discusses why a weather tower was built in the shape of a mountain. The Prime Directive is mentioned. This has already played a role in countless “Star Trek” episodes and states that Starfleet is not allowed to visibly intervene in the fate of foreign worlds that have not yet independently developed a warp drive.
