The first impressions from the beta test in 2023 were encouraging and raised hopes that XDefiant could become a popular reference for shooter enthusiasts. Former Call of Duty creative strategist Robert Bowling praised XDefiant for returning to the essence of tactical shooters, noting that unlike CoD, which has strayed from its roots, XDefiant knows and excels at its identity.
It remains an open question as to whether XDefiant will manage to permanently secure a place in the competitive FPS landscape.
