Xiaomi’s new operating system is called HyperOS. It was announced and a few months later it began circulating on users’ mobile phones, with deployment starting in China and It is now available in the rest of the world with the global version.
Whether you own a Xiaomi mobile or one of its sub-brands, Redmi and POCO, you can try the new HyperOS. Everything will depend on its availability for your model, although with these changes you will be able to speed up updates to try them before the others.
Try changing the region on your mobile
Xiaomi is pretty special regarding the deployment of its updates. What it already did with MIUI, its defunct customization layer, is repeated with HyperOS: there are firmwares for each region, and they differ a little in terms of pace.
As a general rule, if we have acquired our terminal on European lands, it will have a system with the acronym “MI” (Global) or “EEA” (European), very different, for example, from that which the found in China (acronym “CN”). Despite everything, without having to modify our mobile, we can change region, which sometimes causes updates arrive faster
This has happened with the rollout of HyperOS and some mobile phones, although we can’t promise it will work. For change region directly on your mobile, follow these simple steps:
- Go to Settings”. The gear icon.
- On the first screen we have to go down until we see “Additional settings”. Tap to enter.
- Then it will be as simple as entering “Region” and selecting an alternative country to ours.
Sometimes it arrived in the UK first, other times in the US. However, this doesn’t always guarantee that HyperOS updates will arrive faster. By trying, you lose nothing. And if you’re still interested, the two remaining methods They are much more efficient.
Register for the My Pilot program
What is my driver? It is a program that Xiaomi itself opens so that the most enthusiastic users can try the updates before others. Not for fun, of course, but to contribute by reporting bugs and errors so that the final firmware is as successful as possible.
From time to time they usually open it – when they have scheduled updates in queue – in the Xiaomi community, the official forums of the Chinese firm. Once the program is active, simply Fill out a simple form so that our Mi account receives updates sooner.
This is once again the method chosen for the deployment of HyperOS. Although in our case, by opting for the Global version of the firmware, we will only have access to the versions labeled “Beta Stable”. Recall that Xiaomi’s beta updates were limited to its country of origin.
Now, as we read in the Xiaomi community of Europe, it is possible register for the Mi Pilot program directly from your mobile, using the corresponding application that we leave at the end of this chapter. Then we need to follow these steps:
- Log in to the app with your Mi account.
- You need to change the region to Global of the application: change it in “Me” > “Prepare” > “Change region” > and select “Global”.
- You will need to log in again after the change.
- We follow the following route to activate Mi Pilot updates: “Me” > “Profile” > “Beta Testing”.

Something more complex: change the firmware to Global
In the first method we choose to change region from the same mobile, which is not the same as what we are going to do here. This route is aimed at the more adventurous who do not hesitate to modify their Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO smartphone. Note that you can damage it and make it unusable, it must therefore be done with full knowledge of the facts.
Thus, we will dump the firmware of another region to receive the consequent updates of this branch. That is, if we have a Xiaomi with “EEA” firmware, we can convert it to Global “MI”, which is usually updated before. The problem is that this involves opening the bootloader, which becomes increasingly difficult. This also implies a loss of user data.
Then, through custom recovery or through fastboot (you need to download the update for fastboot or recovery, depending on the case), we will install the desired package which we can download from websites such as Xiaomi Firmware Updater. We repeat: you must be careful with these modifications. Of course, when installing the system we can lock the bootloader again and leave everything as it was.
