As if Dragon Ball Sparking players weren’t already hyped enough, the English San Goku actor adds a little grain of salt with a statement that’s getting a lot of buzz.
After a 15-year absence, the Budokai Tenkaichi license that marked the youth and childhood of many gamers during the PS2 era is finally making a comeback. The expectations for Dragon Ball Sparking Zero are then enormous and every communication shows that Bandai Namco is aware of the problems. The Japanese publisher seems to have pulled out all the stops for this revival, promising the biggest roster of characters ever. But the developers clearly don’t have the big picture in mind when casting the game.
A Dantesque story mode for Dragon Ball Sparking Zero?
A rumor has been circulating since this weekend: Dragon Ball Zero would be available on October 1st. A date that could only be provisional internally, but would clearly fit into the tradition of the license. In Japan, all the other games in the series were released this month, so why not? We’ll undoubtedly find out during Summer Game Fest 2024, although before then Bandai Namco will visibly release a new Dragon Ball Sparking Zero trailer focused on fusions. In the meantime, Sean Schemmel, the English voice of Goku, has gone there with his small teaser and promises ever more extensive content.
In a recent video, the actor explained that he worked on the game between 60 and 80 hours: “All I can say is that you’re going to love it,” he added. Of course, this doesn’t mean that Goku will have as much speaking time in the final version and it in no way matches the lifespan of Dragon Ball Sparking Zero. On the other hand, this harmless little statement could suggest one thing: an even denser story mode. Bandai Namco had already confirmed that he would be back and that it would be both a sequel and an evolution of DBZ Tenkaichi 3. In order to be able to get so much out of the actor, the editor probably saw things bigger on this point too.
This statement should also reassure purists about the possible use of AI. Naruto X Boruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections has been suspected of using artificial intelligence to synchronize certain lines of dialogue. A practice pointed out by the actors when casting the game was something Bandai Namco had denied, but at least Dragon Ball Sparking Zero should avoid the same controversy.
