Things are steaming again on Steam. Or still. Because there is always something bubbling in the offer kitchen of Valve’s games marketplace. After the Endless Replayability Fest from last week, which pushed mainly long-lasting titles into the reduced area, the next big sale is now underway.

This week: the Open World Survival Craft Festival. As the name suggests, the list of games on offer here includes games in which survival is a central part of the gameplay. And crafting. And an open game world. So a whole lot.

What is… Stranded Deep? – The Robinson Simulator

Developer: Beam Team Games | Price: 8 dollars (50 percent discount) | Release: 11. August 2022

Dimitry Halley: Many people would pay money for the hell of Stranded Deep: Sitting in meditative silence on a lonely tropical island, surrounded by sky-blue sea, juicy coconuts and dreamlike panoramas.

The only problem: There are no vending machines with drinks and snacks anywhere, so if you lounge around on the beach for too long, you’ll starve, die of thirst and get burns and sunstroke on top of that. On my first playthrough, I promptly stepped on a poisonous starfish and died a painful death.

So: Stranded Deep is a survival game through and through. It’s not nearly as merciless as Green Hell, but because there’s not much to get on the tiny islands, I have to constantly keep moving, exploring, collecting and building.

Fortunately, this also works in two-player co-opso you can divide the work between you. One person dives for sunken shipwrecks, the other goes hunting, together you build a beach home and little by little hell turns into the paradise that others would pay money for.

What is… Subnautica – The Ultimate Underwater Adventure?

Developer: Unknown Worlds Entertainment | Preis: 15 Euro (50 percent reduced) | Release: 23 January 2018

Jesko Buchs: Subnautica also takes you to the sea. The only difference is that in this survival game from the American developer Unknown Worlds, you are not shipwrecked on Earth, but on a completely alien sci-fi world.

After your spaceship is shot down, you end up stranded – or rather splashed – on planet 4546B. The rest of your crew dies in the crash, so it’s up to you to find a way home.

Since a large part of 4546B is covered by water, you will mostly explore by swimming or diving. In addition to the vital resources, you will occasionally discover traces of other crew members on your forays and gradually uncover the secret of the planet.

The further you get from your home base, the deeper the sea becomes. If you want to go there, you not only need better equipment, but you also have to Beware of dangerous representatives of the local flora and faunaThis means that Subnautica always creates a dense atmosphere.

If, on the other hand, you just want to freely build your own underwater base, you can do so in creative mode without any restrictions.

Days Gone: New trailer for the PC version sets the mood for the zombie end times

Soren Diedrich: I know what many of you are thinking: “Days Gone isn’t a survival game! What a stupid recommendation!” – and I vehemently disagree with you!

Well, not the fact that Days Gone is not a survival game in the classic sense, you are of course absolutely right about that. But stupid recommendation? Not at all! Days Gone is great and if the current Steam sale gives me the opportunity to recommend this great open-world zombie game to you, then I’ll take it.

Deacon St. John has a problem: He is one of the few survivors in the midst of a zombie plague. But his life isn’t that bad, because he still has his bike. And with it he rides through the big game world, finds all kinds of stuff, completes tasks and advances the main story, which becomes particularly exciting towards the end.

Every now and then you’ll be chased and probably killed by one or two… well, a few hundred zombies. I don’t know about you, but that’s definitely enough survival for me! If you don’t know it yet: Get Days Gone, it’s amazing!

I Am Future: Survival game shows in trailer how cozy the post-apocalypse can be

developer: Mandragora | Preis: 10 Euro (35 percent discount) | Release: 8. August 2023

Steffi Schlottag: I Am Future is one of the rare representatives of the solarpunk genre, which I love so much. Unlike in cyberpunk, diesel punk, etc., the future here looks pretty rosy: What if humanity switches to environmentally friendly technologies and really manages to live in harmony with nature? Sometimes I like to escape into this dream.

The world in I Am Future has largely come to an end (in the truest sense of the word, entire cities are flooded). But that doesn’t spoil the cozy atmosphere. The sun is shining, the waves are lapping, we are the last people in the world – so there is no one around to get on our nerves. To the relaxed sounds of the guitar we build a small farm from the remains of the old world and make friends with robots.

The game is in Early Access, and there is no release date for the finished version yet. However, there is already a lot to explore, build and improve. The user reviews on Steam are correspondingly positive: 88 percent already recommend the game.

Enshrouded – Test video for the survival game in Early Access

Developer: Kenn Games | Price: 24 dollars (20 percent discount) | Release: 24 January 2024

Daniel Hartmann: Enshrouded inspired my friends and I to rent our own server again. Not only did we have fun exploring the game world together, but we were always excited to come online and see what cool things someone else had built in our absence.

The game from the Europe studio Keen Games is in many ways a classic survival game. With less than a few rags on your body, you wake up in a world unknown to you and have to collect resources, make tools, weapons and equipment and build a base.

I could spend hours building houses, towers and hobbit holes. Not only is there a wide choice of building materials and interior design, you can also remove individual cubes from each pre-built structure or add new ones. This gives you a lot of freedom when building.

There is also enough variety. In addition to cultivating fields or refining resources, there are dungeons to explore and bosses to defeat. The open skill tree allows you to develop either swordsmen, magicians, healers or other classes.

Enshrouded is currently in Early Access and is expected to receive more content before the planned release in early 2025. So it’s worth checking back every now and then.

Starbound – Test video: This is how good the pixel adventure is

Mary Marx: Hardly any other setting screams survival for me as much as space. It’s not only deadly, but also damn scary. Especially when I dig myself into the unknown earth on some alien planet without knowing what awaits me.

That’s exactly what makes Starbound so exciting for me. Thanks to the cute graphics, I, an old scaredy-cat, don’t have to worry so much about my nervesInstead, I spend hours playing exploring all kinds of snow, lava, and forest planets and fixing my broken spaceship.

Thanks to fantastic co-op, I can also motivate my better half or various family members to… – er, to get my spaceship up and running again. So if you don’t know Starbound yet and maybe you already loved Terraria, these 6 dollars are an excellent investment.

Of course, we have a whole range of other content on the subject of Steam, some of which we have linked in the link box above. Here you can find out how to use Steam saves in other storeswhy tons of users are clicking on a banana, and which popular Square brand will soon find its way onto Steam.
