The Witcher 4: Over 400 developers are already working on it

In the financial report for the first quarter of 2024, CD Projekt RED once again revealed some interesting information, such as the number of employees for the current projects.

Now that work on Cyberpunk 2077 has been completed, CD Projekt RED is moving full steam ahead with its next projects. The main focus is of course Polaris, also known as The Witcher 4, which will apparently be the studio’s next major release. We’ll leave the remake of the first The Witcher out of it for now, as it is being managed externally by Fool’s Theory.

And with Polaris, CDPR is really stepping on the gas. Chief Financial Officer Piotr Nielubowicz said in a video about CD Projekt’s latest financial results: “The biggest of them – measured by the size of the team, but also the progress of the ongoing work – is Polaris: the upcoming first part of the new Witcher trilogy. Over 400 people are currently working on the game, and we plan to move into the production phase in the second half of the year.”

There are quite a few people, and this number is likely to rise sharply again during the actual production phase. Things are much more relaxed on the other projects. The number of employees on Cyberpunk 2077 has now reached zero, meaning that development is considered to be over. This means that, as announced, no further updates are to be expected. Unusual, since the implementation of AMD FSR 3 is still pending, but it is quite possible that this supp ort has been shifted to one of the overarching project areas.

Based on the number of employees, the other titles are apparently all still in the early stages or in the concept phase. There are currently only 56 employees working on the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, 39 people are working on the Witcher spin-off Sirius, and only 20 developers are working on the new Hadar brand.

Financially, things also seem to be looking good at the moment. Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty continues to bring in a lot of money. CD Projekt RED recorded sales of a good 53 million dollars and a net profit of just over 23 million dollars in the first quarter – both a significant increase compared to the same period last year.
