The video game world mourns because Landon Montgomery has passed away. In case the name doesn't tell you something immediately: The developer was, among other things, co-founder of Gearbox Studios, which has been releasing the Borderlands series since 2009.

He has also worked on the first Half-Life, the addons Opposing Force & Blue Shift, as well as other well-known games such as Halo: Combat Evolved, Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3. He has also worked for AAA studios such as Bethesda and Nintendo of America.
Landon Montgomery's death through Gearbox became known. The developer studio's official Twitter channel has published a memoriam post in which they commemorate their co-founder:
"In our early years, Landon played a big role in paving our way. We will always be grateful to him and remember him as part of our lives."

Numerous fans express their grief on the Internet and especially on Twitter. Randy Pitchford, who founded Gearbox Studios together with Montgomery in 1999, also says goodbye to his former colleague with a tweet and recalls all the important titles in which Montgomery was involved.

In 2010, Montgomery left Gearbox. Most recently, he worked as a producer at Nvidia since November 2019. Nothing is known about the exact circumstances of his death.
