How do social networks finance themselves? Of course, through advertising. Meta is currently testing how far it can go with this.
How 9to5Mac reported that some users are now seeing advertisements that cannot be skipped.
Why this is important: This would be a new level of escalation when it comes to advertising on social media.
This is what it looks like: “Advertising breaks” while scrolling are intended to hold users for a few seconds before they can scroll further.
Redditors have expressed their Thread complained; the picture below comes from there.
Instagram confirms the test. Opposite Techcrunch Meta said that it is currently testing out ad breaks. The company is always looking for new ways to make the app more attractive to advertisers, the article says.
What Meta did not confirm: It is unclear whether advertising breaks will be rolled out worldwide and whether they will also appear in reels (videos) and stories.
At this point in time, it is not clear how many people are affected by the advertising breaks or what experience Instagram or Meta has had with them. Users are certainly not enthusiastic.
