The countdown to WWDC is about to hit zero. Next Monday, June 10, the inaugural conference will take place and we will know all the news related to Apple operating systems. This year, iOS 18 promises to be one of the most important releases in iOS history and you can try it, if you wish, a few hours after its presentation.
Leaked new iOS 18 features
For a year, all kinds of rumors have been circulating about iOS 18. Design changes, artificial intelligence, application changes. A few days after knowing what Apple has really prepared, here are theiOS 18 news that was leaked and has a higher probability that they finally come true.
- Home screen changes: iOS 18 will introduce a significant change in design, allowing you to leave empty spaces on the home screen and freely arrange icons.
- Control Center Redesign: One of the latest rumors is that iOS 18 will bring changes to the Control Center, improving the Music and Home shortcuts.
- New Settings panel: In macOS and iOS 18, the appearance of the Settings app will be changed to reorganize itself and make the different options easier to find.
- Smarter Siri: Perhaps the biggest and most anticipated change in iOS 18. Siri will be updated with artificial intelligence to improve voice recognition, context understanding and more precise responses.
- Changes in Safari: Apple’s browser will also have AI functions, allowing us to make automatic summaries.
- Notes app with more features: Notes app will be integrated with calculator and voice memos. The reason is that thanks to Apple’s AI it will be able to transcribe recorded audios and also perform mathematical operations on scanned or written documents.
- Calendar and reminders merged: Both apps will share a lot more information so we don’t miss anything.
- Apple Music more personal: Apple’s music service will also take advantage of Apple’s artificial intelligence to offer us better recommendations and playlists more in line with our tastes.
- Smart and professional photo editing: As it could not be otherwise, the Photos application will use AI, improving their quality and being able to eliminate unwanted people and objects.
- Android compatible messages: As disclosed by Google, Apple’s Messages application will be compatible with Android and we will be able to write, send photos, videos and voice notes between the two operating systems.
- Customizable message effects and emojis: Additionally, iMessage will continue to benefit from exclusive features. One of them would be to be able to send words with different effects. Something similar to what we can do now with a full message. On the other hand, thanks to AI we will be able to create emojis in real time and modify the faces of those who, until now, have been static.
- Most suitable routes in Maps: Apple Maps will continue to improve and thanks to AI it will learn our favorite driving routes. So it will take us through the streets or highways that we like the most.
- Control iPhone and iPad with your eyes: This new feature has already been confirmed by Apple, and is part of the advances in accessibility that will arrive with iOS 18. Inspired by Apple Vision Pro, with the movement of our eyes we will be able to move around the operating system.
- A breakthrough in CarPlay: From functions to avoid getting dizzy in the car, to warnings in the event of an ambulance arriving. CarPlay will receive a large number of new features with iOS 18.
How to be among the first to try iOS 18
This next Monday, June 10, iOS 18 will be officially presented. From this day on, it will enter the beta phase (test version) until September. Only after summer will iOS 18 be officially released to all compatible iPhones worldwide. If curiosity gets the better of you, Apple will allow you to install iOS 18 the same day it is presented. You’ll just need to install the iOS 18 beta on your iPhone, and luckily, it’s getting easier every year.
Prepare to install the iOS 18 beta
Until a few hours after the end of the Keynote The iOS 18 beta will not be available at WWDC. Of course, you can take a very important step forward. And this first beta of iOS 18 is available only to developers. What’s good is that you can register as a developer without any fees.
- Go to Developer.apple.com/ios
- Credit and Download
- Sign in with your Apple ID Accept the terms and conditions
Once this is done (you only need to do this once per Apple ID account) you will need to go to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates. This will be where you find the iOS 18 Developer Beta. Of course, keep in mind that in an early beta of iOS 18, some apps may not work properly. Battery life will be shorter and device performance may be affected. It is also normal for the iPhone to heat up more than normal.
Approximately every 15 days you will receive a new beta version. Consider updating to fix errors. Reverting to a previous version (iOS 17) will be possible provided you have a computer and do not apply a backup. All these inconveniences are necessary. A beta version is there to discover bugs and fix them before the official launch. Keep this in mind before you decide to try iOS 18 before everyone else.
