Today, while IGN For the first time, we got a real look at the Borderland Movieand guys, I’m not sure this is going to be very good.

Based on the popular looter shooters developed by Gearbox and published by 2K Games, Borderland was first announced in 2020The film is directed by Eli Roth and was shot in Production hell for yearsBut finally our long national nightmare is almost over, because Borderland hits theaters August 9th. Unfortunately, based on a scene released earlier today, I’m not sure it’s worth the wait. IGN Live showcase from day one.

In the new scene, we see Roland (Kevin Hart), Lilith (Cate Blanchett), Tiny Tina (Ariana Greenblatt), Kireg (Florian Munteanu) and Claptrap (voice of Jack Black) in a dark underground facility full of boxes and hardly any light. It’s hard to see what’s happening.

This is supposed to be an action-packed sequence from a major motion picture, but it feels more like a pre-recorded sketch from a mediocre episode of Saturday Night Live. Enemies get shot and just fall to the ground with no blood or brutality on display, characters move slowly even though this is supposed to be a fast-paced sequence, and all of this happens to generic music that you’ll forget about as soon as the scene ends.

But cheap sets, boring action and dodgy pacing can be made up for by great performances, and unfortunately none of that comes across here, even though the cast is packed with people who did a good job. I love Borderland. A lot! I like the jokes and the world. This… this is not this. I don’t know what this is. What I can tell you is that after this scene, I am convinced that Hart, Blanchett and Jamie Lee Curtis – who plays Dr. Tannis in the film – are not the right actors for these characters. Curtis feels particularly out of place as Tannis. And Hart… I just don’t understand why one of the most serious characters in BorderlandRoland, is played by a comedian.

And remember, this is the scene that the producers and the others involved thought was good enough to put online. This is how they sell the movie. This is their big “watch this and be amazed” clip. If that’s the case, then I fear for the rest of the movie.
