The 90s were undoubtedly one of the golden ages of video gaming, with authentic consoles and excellent games being released almost daily. One console that has gone fairly unnoticed, however, is the highly underrated Dreamcast which first saw the light of day in 1999 and offered a gaming perspective so fresh, radical and of such quality that many still miss it today.
Being the last major console that SEGA was going to put on the market, it was quite weak in terms of popularity. This is not to say that it stood out in several aspects, for example, exclusive games, since it featured some of the most beloved and popular franchises of the moment. But which are the best?
The best of a console like Dreamcast
So as a tribute, with our colleagues at Metacritic, we investigated to see which are the best Dreamcast exclusives, the ones that you absolutely have to play. So now that we have said that, we leave you with the list:
5. Amigo’s Samba
We can’t think of a better way to open this list than with one of the great SEGA originals. These maraca-shaped devices have entered the history of the medium. Not to mention it was damn fun and addictive. On Metacritic, it has a very solid score of 89 out of 100. Not bad for fifth place on the list.
4.NBA 2K1
Who would have thought that one of the great sagas of the sports scene would begin its journey as a Dreamcast exclusive? This is the title responsible for many of the things that this franchise has accustomed us to. A game this legendary couldn’t have a rating lower than 93 on Metacritic.
3. Resident Evil: Code VERONICA
One of the great video game franchises of the 90s didn’t want to be left without a ride on the Dreamcast, so this spin-off from resident Evil It would happen exclusively. It remains to this day one of the best stories that the saga has brought us. On Metacritic, it gets a score of 94 out of 100, winning the bronze medal.
2. NFL 2K1
And we continue with another sports game, only now abandoning basketball for American football. These first games from the 2K label laid the foundations for the media giant that this game saga is today. As for its Metacritic score, it is really good, with an incredible score of 97. Simply incredible.
1. SoulCalibur
Although we know that this title, over the years, has been able to be played on more consoles, it started as a Dreamcast exclusive. Mr.Many fighting sagas are similar, however, this game established the maxim of SoulCalibur: fights with knives of all kinds. And the rest is history. It has a near-perfect score of 98 on Metacritic.
And you? What is your favorite Dreamcast exclusive game?
