Cities: Skylines 2 has been struggling since its launch last year, and with its console ports delayed indefinitely, there’s no sign of it stopping.
When Cities: Skylines 2 launched last year, it had its fair share of issues. So bad, in fact, that the developers had to assure everyone that no paid DLC would be released until they managed to fix the game’s performance issues. This has been the case for months, save for a portion of the Deluxe Relax Station DLC, even though you could buy the Ultimate Edition of the game. These issues continue to this day, because in an update today, developer Colossal Order shared that the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game have been delayed, with no release date currently in sight.

“Dear console players, we wanted to update you on the console release timeline,” a post on the game’s forums reads. “Unfortunately, we have not yet met the stability and performance targets we set for the console launch. Due to the absence of a Release Candidate (RC), we are currently unable to release in October. While we are slowly but surely making progress, there are still some unresolved issues affecting the game that detract from the player experience we want to provide.”
“We anticipate receiving the new RC and will conduct a comprehensive review in August. This evaluation will determine whether we can begin the submission process and provide a firm release date, or if further issues need to be addressed. We know this is disappointing and it is not what we had hoped for. However, we are committed to keeping you informed throughout the development process, even if updates are not always what we want. Thank you for your understanding and support.”
Due to the city-building game’s many issues, it currently has a ‘Mixed’ rating on Steam, despite having a horrible ‘Mostly Negative’ rating at launch. Things are looking up a bit now, and Alex actually enjoyed the game in his review, but it still has a long way to go to regain the high reputation of the first game.
