Are you brave enough to ignore our Borderlands movie review and miss out on what you’re really going to want to know when you watch it? Well, at least it’s not Uwe Boll’s video game adaptation. However, the disgraced director mocked the film on Twitter.
Borderlands grossed an embarrassing $16.5 million worldwide in its first weekend, on a production budget of around $115 million (plus marketing costs). Needless to say, it was a massive flop, instantly killing any hopes of a sequel. There was simply no real hype surrounding the film, and it wasn’t helped by the brutal reviews from critics.

Now even Boll, the mastermind behind such F-rated video store hits as Alone in the Dark (2005), BloodRayne (2005) or Far Cry (2008), is openly mocking Lionsgate’s Eli Roth-directed flop. I’d say “join in on the fun” but everything went haywire when he said that someone wanted him to direct Borderlands.
Yes, his low-budget adaptation did “better” at the box office than No Man’s Land, given the ratio of box office revenue to costs, but that’s like saying it’s better to be a bully than to be a bully (unless that’s your personal quirk). By all accounts, Boll’s efforts in that area were equally as bad, as was the film itself. Even worse.
Someone actually posted the receipt under his post, and Boll simply responded with a (rather hilarious) nonsense message:
The fact that he used the number of illegal downloads to justify his film’s performance after its theatrical/domestic release is laughable in itself, but the custom image and the very specific number of 41 billion are the icing on the cake. I personally don’t care if these numbers are real; it’s pretty good. based onAs the kids say.
Ironically, Boll has had a pretty eventful career, and I’m the first to admit that he almost His brutal The Postman adaptation also achieved some success. Outside of the video game movie realm, his Rampage movies and Assault on Wall Street even made it into the “positive” realm in terms of audience reviews, so he’s not completely without character, just a little delusional.
