Rising Star It’s been in the works for a while now, and Marvel’s head of streaming has revealed a few things to expect from the series.
Many of you may not have heard of Nova before, even though he’s one of the more popular characters in the comics, but you’ll most likely recognize his look. The Nova Corps actually made an appearance in the original Guardians of the Galaxy, which is 10 years ago now, and although that movie established the group, it didn’t establish Nova as a superhero at the time. Back in July, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige confirmed that a Nova show was in active development, even if it was still three or four years away, and now, Marvel’s head of streaming, television, and animation Brad Windbaum has shared more information about the series in an interview with Phase Zero’s Brandon Davis.

“Nova is in development right now, but we’re developing more than we’re making. This is the new Marvel,” seemingly referring to Marvel’s continued attempts to slow down its output. “We should talk about this. At Marvel, everything is focused on it. We love Nova, and we want to get it right.” He went on to explain that Nova and a few other things are in development, but Marvel “is not going to air anything until we’re happy with the pilot and the bible.”

Windbaum also talked about what inspired the series, continuing, “In terms of covering cosmic stories on Disney+, I was inspired by what Star Trek has done over the last few years…Nova, which is currently in development, is an amazing ensemble piece. I shouldn’t say too much, but it’s like a great character case with [Star] Star Trek, with shades of Battlestar Galactica.”
Obviously, according to Windbaum, we’re still years away from a Nova series, but it at least sounds like it’s off to a good start. For those who don’t know Nova, the show will tell the story of the original character, Richard Rider, a high school student who gains cosmic powers from a dying Nova Corps member, travels through space fighting bad guys, and all the same old clichés. Who knows if this show will be similar to that, so for now you’ll just have to wait and see.
