Yesterday, Hellraiser 2 developer Arrowhead revealed the next War Bond coming to the game – Chem-Agent, which is expected to make a splash when it releases on September 19th.
The latest Warbond includes a couple of strategic variants – the TX-41 Sterilizer and the AX/TX-13 “Guardian” Dog Breath – and this is the first time Arrowhead has chosen to include these variants in Warbond, rather than offering the usual handful of new primary weapons. How do players feel about this? Well, it looks pretty good.

As we reported yesterday, Arrowhead acknowledged the change in a blog post detailing ChemAgent: “Adding a variety of subterfuges to War Bonds is new to ChemAgent, but our designers felt that since poison gas is a crowd control tool, it made more sense to unleash subterfuge and let Helllurkers choose their favorite primary weapon. Not only that, but this also brings some variety to ChemAgent that we hope players will enjoy.”
Given the contentious nature of the update between Arrowhead and many of Helldivers 2’s hardcore fans regarding balancing the different weapons and strategies in the game, this event looks likely to be divisive once again, but as long as it doesn’t mark the start of a wider change, the Super Earth Soldiers on Reddit are generally happy with it.
“I don’t expect every new strategy in War Bonds, but one or two new bond-themed strategies would be ok, maybe not every War Bond drop, but I’m not going to complain about new toys either unless they don’t work or crash my game,” reads one of the top-up comments in a popular thread discussing the issue, with another player adding: “As long as they don’t start taking generic strategies, then I’m happy for them to have some extra levers to pull.”
“Every strategy in War Contracts is detrimental to the health of the game,” another diver wrote. “However, themed War Contracts like these, which are essentially variations of existing strategies, are not only appropriate, but a better choice, as balancing flashy War Contracts with non-strategy weapons is not always easy. It really shows strength.”
Many players pointed out that this is similar to what the original Hellraiser did, and it plays out in a way that players appreciate.
On the other hand, some players had more mixed emotions, with one writing: “It feels weird. But maybe it’s better than giving us a new main character.” [weapons] There was no identification. If it was a weapons call like this, then I guess it was OK, as opposed to something like carpet bombing where we would have to pay for it.”
