Almost ten years after its release on PC, GTA 5 finally brings a highly anticipated new feature to that platform. Better late than never?
« There is no point in rushing through Los Santos, you just have to get there on time » seems to be Rockstar Games’ motto with regard to the PC version of GTA 5. With its release in 2015, it finally welcomes a “novelty” that many players would certainly have liked to have seen on the market much earlier.
Rockstar Games takes a new look at the PC version of GTA 5
While GTA 6 is still scheduled for next year, GTA 5 is not ready to retire yet. One of the best-selling games of all time continues its life in the name of organized crime, supported in particular by an online game that is always regularly filled with new content, eleven after its release on consoles and nine on PC. It is precisely this version that received special attention from Rockstar Games that we no longer really expected.
After nine years of good and loyal service, GTA 5 finally brings an anti-cheat to PC. We owe this discovery to Tez2, specialist in everything related to Rockstar Games. He actually found this addition on the game’s SteamDB page. As the saying goes, better late than never? However, the anti-cheat solution that the studio would have targeted is far from the most efficient. It is in fact BattleEye, a software used in particular in Rainbow 6 Siege. Except that it can still be improved a lot when it comes to preventing cheaters from going around in circles.
Adding this anti-cheat solution to the PC version of GTA 5 could also cause collateral damage. Many players are indeed concerned about the impact on the use of mods. Note that Rockstar Games has not yet officially commented on the addition of BattleEye to its best-seller. Hopefully this is an opportunity to clarify things, especially regarding the fate of the mods. These also ensure some sustainability of GTA 5 on PC, which still has more than 150,000 players connected simultaneously every day, at least on Steam.
