The recently announced PS5 remaster from Horizon Zero Dawn arrives next month. And if you already own the OG version on PS4, you can upgrade for just $10. However, if you’ve been thinking about buying the old PS4 version now to pay the small upgrade fee and save some money for the remaster, then you’ve waited too long because Sony has doubled the price of the original game to to stop anyone from doing that.
On September 24th during the latest State of Play, Sony officially announced this Horizon: Zero Dawn Remastered
As discovered by EurogamerSony has quietly doubled the price of the digital version Horizon Zero Dawn on PS4. The 2017 game was previously just $20, but now it’s $40. It appears that the price was increased on September 25th
If you do some math, that means if you buy the PS4 version today and then spend the $10 on the upgrade, you’ve spent $50. So this won’t save you any money. Now Sony hasn’t officially said, “Oh yeah, we’ve doubled the price of the PS4 version.” horizon So you can’t save $10.” But it’s pretty obvious what’s happening here, and frankly, it’s a bit silly.
If people want to be brave enough to buy it on PS4 first and then upgrade to the PS5 version to save $10, then who cares? You still make money. Or lower the price of the remaster to $30 so that you don’t save people money, but you don’t piss off people who want to buy a seven year old game and play it on their PS4.
Luckily, there are still cheap used physical copies of it available Horizon Zero Dawn, And Sony has confirmed that if you own it on CD, you can upgrade for just $10. You have to keep the disc in the PS5 (and of course have a CD drive), but that’s still an option. And I don’t think Sony is going to go around with a sledgehammer and smash every copy of it Horizon Zero Dawn hanging out in GameStops across the country. At least I’m pretty sure they won’t…
