- Warning: Minor spoilers for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
I love Call of Duty campaigns. I’ve replayed the original Modern Warfare trilogy almost a dozen times and I still want to give it another pass. I say the same, although not with so many accumulated repetitions, of 2019’s Modern Warfare, World War II and Advanced Warfare. Even Cold War to a lesser extent! The only one I need to play is Vanguard.
You will never hear or read anything similar from me about Modern Warfare II and Modern Warfare III. Maybe I’ll play the first one again at some point, but I wouldn’t even play the second one drunk. Many years have to pass and I have to forget the unpleasant taste that his campaign mode left in me. For me, the worst of the franchise. And yes, above the futuristic Black Ops. That’s the level.
Old traumas from Modern Warfare III in Black Ops 6
I admit it: the campaign Modern Warfare III Not only did it very negatively influence my opinion of Call of Duty, it also took away almost all of my hope for any future installment. So much so that I wasn’t even planning on playing Black Ops 6. I wasn’t even going to give it a chance. Finishing his MWIII campaign was agony. Rarely have I looked at the clock so much and consulted the number of missions to be clear about how much I have left to finish.
And it has a crime because it is one of the shortest campaigns in the entire franchise! You finish it in 4-5 hours, when the rest of Modern Warfare is around 6-8 hours and with infinitely better missions. And even so, it has a catch: it has several open areas that stretch the duration of the experience, such as the Valuable Merchandise, Reactor and Oligarch missions, for example.
I was very discouraged to know that the Black Ops 6 has an open zone mission after hearing very good reviews. But Frankie and Alex warned me that it wasn’t as terrible as I imagined, so I checked out one more time to play the new campaign. Now I can say that I am very glad I followed your advice.
The mission in question is called Hunting season and takes you to a war-torn desert in Iraq. The objective is a palace bunker, but first you must collaborate with the British SAS to clear the anti-aircraft defenses. After securing an area to set up camp, you are given a Tactical Map. It is a laptop that marks the locations of the main objectives (anti-aircraft vehicles) and other secondary ones.
If you haven’t played and you’re looking at this image, you’re almost certainly thinking, “Wow, memories of Vietnam with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.” And I understand it. I admit that I got nervous seeing so much icon, but don’t get carried away by the traumas instilled by Ubisoft. It’s not what it seems… or at least not how you imagine. You only need 10 minutes and several trips to understand that it is not.
I took a precision rifle for long distances (since it is a desert) and a shotgun for possible interiors. Then I went to the SUV and started visiting points on the map. I cleared it completely counterclockwise and starting from the two points of interest to the west… although first I inevitably passed by the two points closest to the base to the south.
I’m not going to tell you the experience point by point because I don’t want to bore you or spoil all the surprises, but I will tell you that Black Ops 6 He is very aware that he is not in his natural habitat. You can resolve each point of interest in 1-5 minutes maximum, depending on your combat skill.
Most are small camps with enemies and supply boxes with special equipment, money and other items. Additionally, the scale of the map is smaller than the Tactical Map appears. It takes a few minutes to cross the dunes (southern area) from west to east. And for added convenience: you can take a quick trip to the campsite or vehicle at any time.
And you’ll think: “Well, I’ll go straight to the objectives and breeze through because there’s nothing of interest.” Well, I think it’s a mistake, because Black Ops 6 It rewards exploring the entire map. So me points of interest are secondary missions that grant special weaponry, such as air support from a Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit (or similar) and a mortar attack. And it is really useful because they are recharged little by little and preserved during the next mission, The Root, which takes place next in the palace.
I admit that it took me a little over an hour to complete the Hunting Season map, but I must add that I went very slowly. I estimate that the mission can be completed in 10-20 mins, going straight to the main objectives, and 30-40 mins at a much faster pace. It also depends on how long it takes you to destroy the main targets. I used the explosive radio-controlled cars to kill everyone.
In any case, completing this mission was a very fun experience. It is far from the best mission of Black Ops 6but it’s certainly fun. And why do I like this one and Modern Warfare III is the worst thing in the world “for doing the same thing”? Because it is unique and does not intend to lengthen the gum, but rather to introduce variety into the campaign. Exactly the same reason why Origins is a fun, original and refreshing mission.
The rest of Black Ops 6 It’s pretty linear, even in missions like Most Wanted and High Bets where you have some freedom of movement. Although they are large areas, they do not become the scenarios of Modern Warfare III.
And I must add that the stealth is much better, despite the fact that there are armored enemies and with a life bar (less); The story and gameplay are much cooler, there are fun mechanics and the rhythm is infinitely better. He takes risks, but he gets it right… not like his predecessor, whose campaign is propaganda for Warzone. Ultimately, I was wrong about this Call of Duty. To Caesar what is Caesar’s.
