Plug and play without too much work
However, using a DSLR camera as a web camera requires some effort. Canon's new application "EOS Webcam Utility" should now greatly simplify this process.
A simple webcam may facilitate video conferencing in the home office. Some people may also use a smartphone as a webcam. However, if you as a content creator depend on higher quality, you may not be satisfied with it and want to use a higher quality camera, such as a DSLR camera.
Converting it to a webcam requires a lot of work. Canon now wants to simplify this process with its new application "EOS Webcam Utility" and instantly turn the internal DSLR camera into a real webcam.
These cameras are compatible
Although the software is still in beta, it already supports the EOS and PowerShot models of many camera experts. Among them, EOS-1D X Mark III, EOS 5DS or PowerShot G5X Mark II are connected to the camera via a USB cable. Canon also pointed out that not all models come with a USB cable. If your camera does not include a USB cable, you must purchase it.
You can download the new Canon EOS Webcam Utility directly from the website. The minimum requirement is 64-bit Windows 10. You also need at least one Intel Pentium processor with 1.6 GHz and 2 GB RAM. You can also find a list of cameras compatible with the software on the website.
