For a few hours now, Ubisoft has been revealing information about its future big production in a drop-by-drop fashion: it is obviously Assassin’s Creed Valhalla!
After revealing to us that'Assassin's Creed Valhalla will be released on current consoles as well as on ninth generation consoles, Ubisoft is back and details the new features of this opus on the site Point Pop. In Assassin's Creed Valhalla, the player will embody the female or male version of Eivor, a warlord from Norway, and take part in the conflict between the English and the Vikings. The adventure taking place in the 9th century will therefore begin on Norwegian soil and then continue on the side of England. This will be an opportunity for Eivor to discover new regions, Ubisoft has formalized the existence of several additional territories outside of England and Norway, and to meet heads known as Viking leaders or Alfred the Great, the king of Wessex.
Like Assassin's Creed Odyssey, this new episode will retain the role-playing mechanics brought about by Assassin's Creed Origins, and will offer multiple story lines that will vary according to your choices. Moreover, Julien Laferrière, the producer of the game, already promises that the adventure game will offer "a subtle scenario while in duality". So we imagine that, like the rest of the series, that everything will not be white or black, whether on the side of the Assassins or on the side of the Order of the Ancients.
Our ambition is to create the ultimate viking fantasy. The hero has the opportunity to raid his gang of fighters in military fortifications and surrounding villages to recover gold and weapons. The Assault mode allows you to experience a siege like in a Hollywood blockbuster. The player can also develop his village and choose the crew that makes up his longship. We really want the player to imagine his own saga. The choice of this period is not trivial. We are looking for pivotal historic moments, full of conflict and emotion. The period of the Vikings is full of political intrigue and the country fractured by its many kings. The England of the time had several layers of civilizations and a rich background to tell our scenario.
However, the title will offer a slightly different combat system with the Origins or even Odyssey. Indeed, in Assassin's Creed Valhalla, the hero can this time equip a weapon in each hand. The arsenal moreover seems rather complete since the title will obviously offer swords, but also plagues, war hammers, spears or seax, that is to say particularly sharp Viking knives. We learn at the same time that the shield, having disappeared from the Odyssey episode, marks with Valhalla its comeback. Players will therefore be able to choose their way of fighting: aggressive or defensive. Moreover, in order to honor Viking traditions, the title will offer players to improve their weapons. Indeed, the producer of the game specifies that the Vikings had a special relationship with their arsenal in order to bequeath them to their future warriors.
As we already clarified in our previous news, Assassin's Creed Valhalla will also offer game mechanics to develop your own colony. Producers even claim that the title will offer "light" management. To accelerate the growth of your clan therefore, thus making it possible to obtain new constructions or even new merchants such as a blacksmith, the players will be able to take part in raids or assaults of fortresses bringing together up to 8 Viking warriors.
The village is the narrative heart of the game and a very important element of the gameplay. We are now working with a system of quest arcs which are linked one after the other much like television episodes. Everything begins and ends in the village. The characters encountered during the adventure can join the clan of the hero. The player's decisions have consequences for his village.
Finally, we learn that the quest system has also evolved. Indeed, in Assassin's Creed Valhalla it all starts around a war table. At this precise moment therefore, the player can then choose his military alliances or even leave in this immense open-world composed of several countries in addition to England and Norway to free companions for example. To cross this universe elsewhere, Eivor will be helped by his raven and will be able to sail on the seas using his drakkar.
As a reminder, Assassin's Creed Valhalla will be released at the end of the year on PCs, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, but also PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
